Lancaster EMS was called to the scene of a man experiencing chest discomfort that began after doing work around his home. When the crew arrived, they provided treatment for acute coronary syndrome. However, during transport to the hospital, the patient went into cardiac arrest.

CPR was started, and the patient was defibrillated once with an immediate return of spontaneous circulation, causing him to regain consciousness before care was transferred over to hospital staff. The patient was later discharged with no deficits.

The Emergency Health Services Federation recognized Paramedic Reyes, EMT Feliciano, and EMT Pipchinski with Clinical Save awards for their outstanding patient care. Congratulations!

In late July, the American Red Cross declared a national blood supply crisis after blood donations fell to a four-year summer low. Donations of any blood type are needed to help rebuild the supply and ensure patients can receive the care that they depend on.

Lancaster EMS is partnering with the Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Blood Donor Team to host a community blood drive on Wednesday, August 19, to help combat the supply crisis. It will take place from 10am to 3pm at the Lancaster EMS headquarters building on 715 Fairview Ave. Our community blood drive on August 19 aids in supporting patients at Lancaster General Hospital, Women’s and Babies Hospital, and the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

If you or someone you know would like to donate to save lives, please visit www.PennMedicine.org/GiveBloodLGH or call the Blood Donor Team at 717-544-0170, option 1, to schedule an appointment. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are always welcome!

As a thank you, all donors will receive their choice of a $10 gift card to Sheetz or Wawa or 1 movie ticket.

Requirements to donate:
- Must bring a valid form of ID
- Feel well and healthy at least 3 days before donation
- Age 16-79 and be at least 110 pounds (age 16 must have parental consent)
- Hydrate well and eat a full meal at least 4 hours prior to donation

Donors should park in the visitor’s lot on the left side of the Lancaster EMS building and enter through the front door.

Lancaster EMS welcomed a group of college students from China who are visiting the United States to learn more about life and culture here. Our Director of Operations, Jerry Schramm, gave the students a tour of our headquarters on Fairview Ave and one of our ambulances. During the tour, he shared information about Lancaster EMS, the programs we offer, and how we support our community. The group also got to see some of the equipment crews use every day, including the Stryker LUCAS 3 device.

Thank you American Home Life International (AHLI) for thinking of us for this opportunity!
