🕍 VITA celebrates Jewish American Heritage Month

May is Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) and it's a time to reflect on the enduring contributions of Jewish Americans and to honor a history that spans over 350 years.

Jewish American Heritage Month was established in 2006 through a bipartisan resolution in Congress and a presidential proclamation, with the goal of highlighting the vital role Jewish Americans have played in shaping the nation. From advancing civil rights and labor protections, to breakthroughs in medicine, innovation in the arts, and leadership in education and public service, Jewish Americans have helped build and enrich every corner of American life.

Let’s honor the legacy of Jewish Americans by showing up with compassion and creating inclusive communities where everyone belongs.

Happy AAPI Heritage Month from VITA!

May marks Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Established as a week-long observance in 1978 and expanded to a full month in 1990, AAPI Heritage Month commemorates key milestones like the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant in 1843 and the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869, built largely by Chinese laborers. This month is a time to honor the rich histories, diverse cultures, and vital contributions of AAPI communities in the United States.

Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month by:

📚 Reading AAPI authors or watching films by AAPI creators
🎉 Attending events like We the People First Friday at The Ware Center (May 2)

Today marks the 55th celebration of Earth Day, a movement that began in 1970 to raise awareness about environmental issues and mobilize collective action for a healthier planet. At VITA, we believe change starts with all of us.

This Earth Day, consider taking a few simple steps that make a big difference:

This April, VITA is celebrating the amazing contributions Arab-Americans make to our community. In 2021, the U.S. officially recognized Arab-American Heritage Month, and in 2022, former President Biden declared April as its official month.

Let’s continue sharing the stories and contributions of our Arab and Middle Eastern neighbors to build a stronger, more understanding community.

Ramadan marks the celebration of the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad. It’s a time of reflection, spiritual growth, and community, where fasting, prayer, and acts of kindness help foster a closer connection to faith.

In 2025, Ramadan will begin on the evening of Friday, February 28th, and end on the evening of Saturday, March 29th.
