THE PROMISE IN ACTION: A LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP

Today's "Promise in Action" spotlight celebrates an incredible mother-son duo, Greta McIlwain and Jordan Watford, who hosted an inaugural basketball camp for more than 50 youth in our community!

Both Greta and Jordan were recognized during our 2025 Lancaster Promise Neighborhood’s Promoting Our Promise Awards for the positive impact they were already making. Jordan, a Lancaster High School graduate, received the 2025 Youth Leadership Award, while Greta received the Community Champion Award for her commitment to strengthening our community. The award recognizes the work, but the work continues.

Now, they are continuing that legacy together.

By investing in a basketball camp for local youth, Greta and Jordan are creating more than an opportunity to play. They are providing mentorship, positive engagement, exposure, and an example of what it means to give back and invest in the next generation.

Thank you, Greta and Jordan, for showing our young people that leadership has no age limit and that strengthening a community can truly be a family affair.

This is the Promise in Action.

A huge THANK YOU to all of our scholars who took advantage of College Application Day! 🎓✨ Over 140 seniors took the time to complete college applications, which is an important step toward turning post-secondary goals into reality. We are proud of each scholar who showed up and invested in their future.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the college and career representatives who joined us on site to provide valuable information, answer questions, and help our scholars explore the many pathways available after high school. Your presence and expertise made this experience even more impactful!

A special thank you to our incredible staff for orchestrating an amazing event and ensuring our scholars had the guidance, resources, and encouragement they needed throughout the process. Bringing the right people and resources together, creating opportunities, removing barriers, and equipping our scholars with the tools to confidently take the next step toward success is the goal.

The future is PROMISING!

What a way to kick off the school year! 📣🎉

The 3rd Annual Parent Pep Rally was about more than just back-to-school fun. It was about sending our students and families into the new school year ready to WIN!

Lancaster Memorial Stadium came alive as families connected with community partners, accessed valuable resources, enjoyed food, music, free haircuts, health services, giveaways, school spirit, and so much more. Most importantly, families were reminded that they have an entire community standing behind them.

At Lancaster Promise Neighborhood, we believe student success is a team effort. When schools, families, organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community leaders come together with a shared purpose, our children win.

Thank you to every partner, sponsor, vendor, volunteer, staff member, and family who helped make our 3rd Parent Pep Rally a success. Your time, energy, and commitment helped us start the academic year with excitement, connection, and purpose.

The pep rally may be over, but the work continues. Let’s keep that same energy for academics all year long! 📚🏆

Parking is available at Lancaster Memorial Stadium, and overflow parking will be on the practice soccer field located beside Vocational Rehabilitation. Please follow the directions of event staff and law enforcement to help keep traffic moving safely.
