We unlearn in the wilderness not to emerge perfect but better.

Since our inception, we have always believed there was more to sport. During our first eight years of operations, we have reimagined the impact of sport through our programming.

Unfortunately, Roster Management Season is here.

What Prime did last season isn't sustainable and shouldn't be replicated. Rick George, Colorado AD, mortgaged the future of the institution to secure Prime, and position program for the professionalization of collegiate sports.

Even with the media money flowing, most institutions arent built for those risks.

As an ecosystem, we cant continue to charade that power 5 athletics is about education. Especially when athletes are stripped of educational benefits when they no longer contribute to the Wins column.

♟️🧪
Sport is a business. One that every athlete should take personal!

We encourage programs to take necessary and reasonable steps to field competitive teams without stripping our athletes of their dignity due to a lack of acknowledgment of their humanity beyond athletic prowess.

And Athletes you cannot continue to assume the position of voiceless when your talents are the reason these sports exist. You must leverage the game, before disposal.

Jimbo leveraged a $75M exit thanks to his ability to recruit you!

As membership seeks a “uniform student-athlete” experience through adopting the 2023 Transformation Committee recommendations, are non-Power 5 institutions positioned to bear the cost associated with uniformity?

Specifically, HBCUs

Which have been squeezed out of

💰revenue units from the March Madness billions due to disingenuous seeding and discriminatory APR penalties.
💰national coverage and media revenues when 61 institutions departed the NCAA television contracts in 1979.
💰equitable investments in infrastructure and sustainability beyond photo-ops and pledges in the aftermath of 2020.

Don’t wait until after the institutions are squeezed out of DI membership to be involved in the restoration and advancement.

‘93-‘94 Collective Action

“We are in a battle to win the lives of our children”

Asked how long this battle would last: "Until the changes are actually made."

"There's a concern among African-American coaches about the legislation and some of {the NCAA's} practices. The Black Coaches Association has taken a stand -- to take a look at the legislation and {the NCAA's} practices in regard to student-athletes. It's a wide range of things."

"The problem is standardization"

“If you standardize all the missions of all the institutions out there and make them all the same, then a certain element of society is automatically eliminated - and that includes the poor and certain Afro-Americans. We coaches are all for standards. But we are not for the misuse of academic instruments by educational institutions. You just can't do that."

When we unpack and overcome the trauma within the athletic experience, we then are able to identify the areas in which we should demand more.

Ecosystem, let us be intentional in our demands and actions this Fall.

Take some time to reflect on slides 3-5.

Thank you to the programs that afford us the space to promote a culture of transparency and education around the business of sport.

Equity requires a “Both &” approach, not “either or”!

Contrary to public belief, conflict isn’t resolved. It’s managed.

How are we managing the cycle within the ecosystem, Unpack & Overcome: Trauma within the Athletic Experience⛰️

📝Can we receive feedback without taking it personally? Without electing a Me vs. The World, Us vs. Them mentality?
💸Do we understand sport is a business and not a charity?
🫱🏼‍🫲🏾Are we building out of convenience or being intentional in developing community? Unlearning absolutes and dismissing labels?
