The Matthew R. Row Scholarship Foundation, Inc.

The Matthew R. Row Scholarship Foundation, Inc. www.arrowintegrative.com For five years, it was primarily through The Matthew R. Row Scholarship Foundation, Inc. with help from my husband’s former co-workers.

Between 2016 and 2019, we proudly distributed $32,500 in educational scholarships to high school seniors in Western New York who lost a parent or guardian, and $4,000 in Camp Widow registrations to local widowed people. Since my husband’s death on November 15, 2008, I have devoted much of my time and energy to serving others in different ways through my loss. Matt’s co-workers, who knew him for ba

rely a year, devoted so much of the last ten years of their lives to our family, as well as others in our community who have experienced similar losses. These are the people that give us faith in humanity: Andrew Armitage, Scott Boyko, Kimberly Rae, Kristin Leiby Ackerman, Kristal Gutowski, Jeff Brecker, Matt Prussein, Marty Laufer, Lana Hazlett Lucca, Brad Bauer, Lynette Berg, Denis Donnelly, Gina Reagan, Jaim Pratyusha, John Koeppel, Noreen Wojtasik, to name a few… There are more volunteers not named, as well as faithful participants of the annual Run For Row 5K, friends, family, sponsors, and so many others. I’d also like to add a special thank you to our newer board members who were willing to help us carry on the mission of the foundation: Tim Schaefer, Agnes Marie and Paulett Brylinski. To ALL of you, we are forever grateful for your time, love, efforts and generosity. We are also very thankful for all of the support and love from not just those in our community, but around the country by friends and family that made it possible for us to be able to give so much. It has been such a rewarding experience to give our attention to kids in WNY who like mine, lost a parent/guardian. Unfortunately, we will not be providing scholarships going forward. It was a very difficult decision for us to discontinue the Foundation, however we are grateful for what we have been able to do for high school seniors who’ve lost a parent in WNY, as well as for widowed people in our area. Between 2016 and 2019, we were able to give $32,500 in college scholarships, and $4,000 in Camp Widow® registrations (Camp Widow® is an event that is an inclusive, secular weekend event focused on hope and healing through the grieving process for those who have lost a spouse/partner [www.campwidow.org]). We will keep our page active for The Matthew R. in order to continue offering any resources we come across that could be helpful for anyone who has experienced a significant loss. Anyone with questions about such support are able to contact us through this page. Thank you to all the Guidance Counselors in our Western New York high schools who have passed along our information to your students who have lost a parent/guardian. We are grateful for your help in spreading the word, and would be so appreciative if you would continue to do so- not for the purpose of distributing scholarships this time, but for the purpose of offering support to your students and their families, as well as anyone else you might know who needs it. Perhaps even yourself. With love and hope,
Andrea R. Row

A Reintroduction 💫

To those who’ve known me for years and those just joining me, thank you for being here and welcome to my little corner of the world! Getting to do work I deeply love is a gift I don’t take for granted. It’s been a minute since I introduced myself, so I thought it would be a good idea to take a moment to share how my work has evolved since pausing The Matthew R. Row Scholarship Foundation.

Since 2009, I’ve supported the widowed community as a peer, mentor, advocate, and now as a therapist and coach- holding space for grief, providing tools for healing, self-discovery, and the integration of grief and growth.

More recently, I’ve been supporting adults with ADHD and late-identified autism, helping them understand their unique flavors of neurodivergence while unpacking years of masking and misunderstandings. I provide strategies for improved executive functioning, greater self-acceptance and self-compassion, and authentic living with a more regulated nervous system.

What makes my approach unique?
A profound understanding of the ways grief and neurodivergence intersect + actionable tools that actually help- all grounded in love.

A little update: I’m continuing to work toward full licensure as a therapist in NYS (passed my exam last year- just 975ish hours of supervision to go!) and currently exploring a rabbit hole about somatic work and psychoneuroimmunology, and so excited about how this knowledge will serve my clients!

Thank you for being here and letting me share my little corner of the world with you. 💚

Lots of updates from Andrea!!

I graduated with a master’s in Mental Health Counseling and got a job in my field, and this past October founded ARROW Integrative Coaching to combine all my favorite things into one entity: the Widowed Support Program, individual grief coaching, Reiki sessions, Malas for meditation, and professional consultations. I’m also in the process of putting together workshops to dive into deeper detail on some of the topics we cover in the program like nervous system regulation, widowed parenting, and journaling, to name a few!

I’m also really excited to announce that I’m getting back to my blogging roots (some of you might remember my old blog, Andrea Remembers) with the newly-launched ARROW Reflections blog where I can keep everyone updated with the latest offerings by ARROW Integrative Coaching, and have a place to share professional and personal insights about life and death, trauma and healing, and everything in between. If you’re interested in staying in the loop, subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss a thing. It’s also a great way to stay connected without social media. Hope to see you there!

Introducing the ARROW REFLECTIONS BLOG where you can stay updated with the latest programs and events for ARROW Integrative Coaching, and get a peek into the insights of an integrative grief coach, neurodivergent therapist, and widowed mom!

Our Story

On November 15, 2008, Matt Row was killed in an industrial accident at his new engineering job at the age of 39. He left behind a wife, Andrea, and their two young children. At the time of the accident, their son Jacob was four years old, and their daughter Sydney was 18 months. He was an amazing husband, father, son, friend, co-worker, and was loved and respected by everyone that knew him. Shortly after the accident, Matt's co-workers organized an annual event in his honor called the Run For Row 5K to help fund a trust that was originally set up to raise money for the children's college education. In 2014, they created a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, and the Run for Row 5K now operates under the umbrella of "The Matthew R. Row Scholarship Foundation.” The decision was made to broaden the purpose of the corporation to fund college scholarships for other students from Western New York who, like Matt’s children, have also lost a parent. The loss of a parent can adversely impact the financial situation of the entire family, often resulting in fewer opportunities for the surviving children. The purpose of this foundation is to make a college education a little more affordable for these children. At this time, we are awarding an educational scholarship to two high school seniors graduating in the 2016 academic year in the amount of $2,500 each. We will also offer the remaining parent/guardian a paid registration to one of the Camp Widow® programs offered by Soaring Spirits International. Understanding the challenges the remaining parent has had to face raising children with the loss of their partner, the foundation would like to provide something for them as well.

The 10th Annual Run For Row is on Sunday, August 19, 2018 - we hope you’ll join us! Check us out at www.runforrow.org for more information.
