We’re celebrating an important step forward for survivors!

HB 2474 and SB 1212 passed Pennsylvania’s legislature with unanimous support and have been signed into law by Governor Josh Shapiro.

Children deserve adults who recognize harm and act to protect them. That includes responding to child sexual abuse material (CSAM), the unlawful sharing of intimate images and hazing.

Survivors waiting for their r**e kits to be tested deserve to know their evidence is being taken seriously. The passage of these bills brings Pennsylvania closer to meeting those responsibilities with the urgency, care and accountability survivors deserve.

YWCA Lancaster thanks Senator Scott Martin, Sen. James Malone, Rep. Nikki Rivera, and the bipartisan coalition of legislators who helped advance these important protections. We’re grateful to see unanimous support for legislation that strengthens accountability and helps protect children and survivors across Pennsylvania.

What happens when a community comes together in the spirit of giving? On Tuesday evening, October 20, over 80 people answered that question.

Thanks to the generosity of Women United and United Way of Lancaster County, PA, YWCA Lancaster's Sexual Assault Prevention and Counseling Center welcomed community members to our newly renovated Maureen Powers Room for an evening dedicated to supporting survivors.

Hundreds of essential items were donated, including underwear, body care products, and feminine hygiene products. These supplies will help stock emergency rooms across Lancaster County and provide comfort and dignity to survivors of sexual assault and abuse when they need it most.

Every donated item helps remove one more barrier for those healing from trauma. Thank you to everyone who contributed and demonstrated that survivors matter.

Enough is enough.

On October 8th, YWCA Lancaster joined the Pennsylvania Coalition to Advance Respect, survivors, advocates, and public officials at the PA State Capitol to demand stronger laws, campus accountability, and meaningful protections for survivors of sexual violence.

YWCA Lancaster Director of Education & Advocacy Kat Gastineau shared her experience supporting survivors on our 24-hour hotline and spoke to the culture of victim-blaming that too often shapes how survivors are treated.

The YWCA Lancaster Sexual Assault Prevention & Counseling Center is honored to be a recipient of Lancaster Law Foundation’s Community Grants Program. We see every day how overwhelming it can be for survivors to navigate legal systems after experiencing sexual violence, harassment, assault, or trafficking. Too often, people do not know their rights, where to turn for help, or how to access the protections available to them.

This funding will help us strengthen partnerships with law enforcement, attorneys, medical providers, and colleges throughout Lancaster County, ensuring that more professionals are equipped to respond compassionately and effectively to survivors. It will also allow us to reach thousands of students and community members with information about victims' rights and available support services.

Together, we are building a community where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered. Thank you to the Lancaster Law Foundation for investing in that vision and for helping us create a stronger, more responsive system for everyone who needs it.

Celebrating a very special reunion at the Women of Achievement W**e and Reunion Night recently on Wednesday, September 16, was a meaningful evening of connection and community, highlighted by the introduction of the 2026 Women of Achievement honorees.

Honorees from the past 10 years of the Women of Achievement Awards came together to reunite for a memorable celebration of YWCA Lancaster’s Women of Achievement Awards and the extraordinary legacy of leadership exemplified by honorees past and present.

W**e and Reunion Night featured the introduction of this year’s outstanding group of honorees including: Andrea Fox Lewis, Dr. Ada Emuwa, Heather Valudes, Lakeesha Bair-Myers, and Patricia Espinosa-Vargas
