Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is a not-for-profit health system in Lancaster, PA.

Lancaster General Health, a member of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine), is a 631-licensed bed not-for-profit health system with a comprehensive network of care encompassing Lancaster General Hospital (LGH), Women & Babies Hospital and the Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital (in partnership with Kindred Healthcare). Our membership in Penn Medicine brings together the strengths of a world-renowned, not-for-profit academic medical center and a nationally recognized, not-for-profit community healthcare system. Outpatient services are provided at the Downtown and Suburban Pavilions, along with additional outpatient locations and Express and Urgent Care locations throughout the region. Lancaster General Health Physicians is a network of more than 300 primary-care and specialty physicians, at more than 40 offices throughout the region. Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences is a private, co-educational, Middle States-accredited four-year college offering a variety of associate and baccalaureate degree and certification programs in healthcare. Each year, our incredible Laundry team processes an astonishing 7 to 8 million pounds of laundry for Lancaster General Hospital, Women & Babies Hospital, the Suburban Pavilion, and the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. From clean linens that provide comfort to patients to the essential supplies our care teams depend on every day, their work helps keep our hospitals and facilities running smoothly.

Before being diagnosed with dilated nonischemic cardiomyopathy in 2009 and eventually undergoing a life-saving heart transplant at Penn Medicine, Kevin Poff Kevin worked at a friend’s business. After his experience, Kevin was inspired to change careers and is now a registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer with Lancaster General Health, caring for patients using the same technology that helped save him.

For Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Rehabilitation Supervisor Debbie Schrodi, supporting cancer patients extends beyond clinical care. And the reasons are very personal.

With help from a Penn Medicine CAREs grant, she recently brought cancer survivors together for healing activities at a retreat held by Better Together Survivors, a non-profit with which she volunteers.

Our Stroke Team recently welcomed nurses and therapists from across Penn Medicine for The Brain Tour: Chart-Topping Stroke Care, a day of education, collaboration, and celebration focused on advancing care for stroke patients. For stroke coordinator Tracey Mousley, who also coordinated the event along with a dedicated group of champions, the "biggest hits" of the day were the inspiring stories of resilience and recovery stroke survivors shared. "They are our why!" she said.

The survivors, pictured with stroke medical director Danielle Cross (2nd photo, 2nd from right) talked about everything from their varying first symptoms to their gratitude for the amazing teams who cared for them through their hospitalizations, rehab, and beyond. "Thank you to everyone who gives hope on the daily," said one. "They are my angels," shared another.

For more than three decades, Doreen Heider has served our patients in a variety of roles in the Lab, Phlebotomy, Non-Invasive Cardiology, and for the past 12 years, The Heart Group of Lancaster General Health. Seeing the impact of being a trusted point of contact, someone patients can reach out to for guidance and reassurance, is the "why" behind the work she does every day.

What a great day in Columbia! In partnership with Highmark Wholecare and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, this week Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Family Medicine Twin Rose welcomed 670 community members to its third Farmers Market and Community Health Event, where 8,000 pounds of fresh food were distributed at no cost. Attendees also connected with Penn Medicine representatives and local organizations offering health care information, wellness programs and community support services. Together, we're helping improve access to nutritious food, health resources and care for our community.

Pediatric headache specialist Dr. Harry Bramley cares for children whose migraines can cause them to miss significant time from school. Parents often reach out to him for a doctor's note, so their child can return to class.

As chair of pediatrics at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, Dr. Bramley also sees the broader implications of absenteeism on students' well-being. Requests for excuses for missed school are a routine part of pediatric care, giving providers a unique window into the issue. While illness is often the reason students stay home, barriers such as housing instability, bullying, family responsibilities, and other circumstances that often go unseen can also be big factors.

Determined to better understand the issue, Dr. Bramley brought together family medicine colleagues, social workers, psychologists, and educators to explore how health care providers can work with families and schools to support students and connect them with needed resources.

Their findings, recently published in The Journal of Lancaster General Hospital, highlight the important role of health care providers in helping students stay supported and engaged in school.

Penn Medicine HealthWorks recently celebrated the opening of HealthWorks Lebanon with a ribbon-cutting and open house attended by community leaders, employer partners, and local residents. Located at 1023 Poplar St., the practice strengthens access to primary care and behavioral health services for employees and their families in Lebanon County.

HealthWorks' direct-to-employer model offers personalized care, counseling services, commonly prescribed medications, and same-day or next-day appointments designed to make healthcare more accessible and convenient.

For Lara Kipphorn, a mammography technologist at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Columbia Diagnostic Imaging, supporting breast health goes beyond her daily work. It is her passion. Seeing firsthand how mammograms can save lives, Lara (3rd from left) wanted to help make screenings more accessible while recognizing the many LG Health teams that support patients throughout their breast cancer journeys.

She designed a T-shirt sharing that “Hope Starts Here” and invited co-workers to join the cause. The response was incredible: more than 1,000 shirts were sold, with a portion of the proceeds generating a $1,751.75 donation to the Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health Mammography Fund. These funds help provide screening and diagnostic mammograms for uninsured and underinsured patients, removing barriers to essential breast care.
