28 lockers are ready to be issued to unsheltered homeless to be added to the existing 12 locker pilot program we made available in August 2024. The platforms are designed and built to be non permanent and movable if needed. Each locker is 12 inches wide x 18 inches deep x 60 inches tall with a hat shelf and hooks inside. Thank you to Sunrise Rotary Club, Lancaster BPOE Elks 134 and the Elk Riders for their support to make this project a reality. Hand Up Partners will manage the assignment of the lockers, locks and area maintenance.

Moved four platforms today to the new location on North Water Street near West Walnut Street. 2 platforms with 7 lockers each are ready to issue locks to unsheltered homeless. The other 2 platforms will be ready within the next couple of days. One complete there will be 40 lockers available for the unsheltered homeless.

Special shout out to the Lancaster Elks Veterans Committee and Dave Costarella with Hand Up Partners.

Any chance we can get several volunteers to help move the two completed platforms later today or this week. I’m working on the third platform today. I have Wednesday afternoon, Thursday all day and Friday morning available to move the platforms. We will need several people to help load onto the trailer and unload the lockers from the trailer. We installed a worm drive on the front of the trailer which should make it easier to pull the platform up the ramp on the trailer.

Platform Number Two is complete and ready to be moved to the North Water Street Location. Thank you today to Daniel Scrobe III with the Lancaster Elks Veterans Committee for helping pick up the lockers for the platform this morning and my grandson Hunter for helping secure the lockers to the platform. These two platforms provide 14 more lockers for the homeless.

I will need at least 4 people to help load the platforms on the trailer and unload during this week. Message me your availability.

The need for Lockers for the Homeless, Lancaster is growing. Providing a safe and secure location to store an unsheltered persons belongings out of the weather and allow freedom of movement is vital to restoring dignity and removing the stigma of being unsheltered homeless.

We are a grassroots nonprofit working with other nonprofits to provide lockers for the homeless. Our success is dependent on your continued financial and location support. Your donations help purchase the materials to build platforms or trailer buildouts, pay the monthly cost for storage units to hold rescued lockers until the lockers can be placed in the community, and pay for daily supervision of the placed lockers in the community by our homelessness partners at Hand Up Partners.

Message me for opportunities to help.

Started the locker trailer move today dealing with a flat tire first, moved the locker trailer to the new location on North Water Street and added actual wheel chocks on both wheels with cable locks. We will begin picking up lockers to be installed on the covered platforms tomorrow and moving platforms on Friday. Hand Up Partners will manage the lockers.

Once we get the platforms with lockers in place we will be looking to put a fresh coat of paint and possible mural to make the lockers more appealing to the neighborhood. Send us your mural suggestions.

Anyone available Wednesday 4/29 or Friday 5/1 we still need help picking up lockers from the storage unit, installing on the platforms and moving the platforms to a new location on North Water Street. Please text me at (717) 341-0039 or message me on FB. I’m still installing workbench casters today.

Thank you to Lancaster County Toys for Tots for allowing us to store the rescued lockers at the Park City Mall Loading Dock storage area for the past several months. We have successfully relocated the lockers to two storage units at Prestige Storage off Centerville Road. Good luck to Toys for Tots with their move to a new location.

Thank you to Clay Campbell, Dalton Caromano and Ricardo Gonzalez Rodriguez for their help during the relocation. The move is complete!

We already have four covered platforms built to hold 27 of the lockers (7 each) and need to get them out into the community.

It is time for our elected representatives to help by changing restrictive regulations and the “not in my backyard” mentality to place lockers thru out our community.
