๐ŸŽ„ National Gingerbread Day
June 5 brings a sweet piece of history to the table. Gingerbread has been enjoyed in New England kitchens since the eighteenth century, when families baked spiced loaves sweetened with molasses and shared them at gatherings and holidays.

๐Ÿฏ Historic Gingerbread Recipe
Mix one cup of molasses with one third cup of melted butter, one beaten egg, one teaspoon of ginger, and one teaspoon of cinnamon. Stir in two cups of flour and one teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in warm water. Bake at 350 degrees until the center is set. The result is a soft, old fashioned gingerbread much like the kind early Lancaster families enjoyed.

Wishing everyone a warm and fragrant National Gingerbread Day.
