Ohh misty what can I say. We had the privilege of helping rescue her and bring her into DVDpa before we even started Joyful. Since then we have saved at least 3 Dobermans that came from her being bred. Please say a little prayer tonight and give your fur baby’s a little extra hug. Rip misty.

She was a good, good grrl. We could not have loved her more, and we know she truly loved us.
Misty came to live with us at 8 1/4 years of age. We never dreamed she would be with us so long. Her body sagged after having so many litters earlier in her life as a puppy mill breeder, she had little muscle mass, and she was diagnosed with DCM not long after she started regular cardiology exams. She surprised us all.
This was the most difficult euthanasia decision I’ve ever made. Her spirit was so strong; she had great chi - life force energy - but she needed round the clock care. Bill and I realized, with the help of our holistic vet Valarie M. Castora Dvm, and the Quality of Life Assessment shared in the photos below that it was time to send Misty on.
She passed so easily and peacefully, confirming that she was probably ready, even if we weren’t sure. I asked her to send me a sign that she was ok. As soon as we stepped outside the vet’s office, we saw a red male cardinal perched in a tree about 25’ away. This entire week has been nonstop cardinals: friends posting photos they took of cardinals, memes with cardinals, a handcarved wooden cardinal ornament, my discovery of a china statue of a cardinal that I had forgotten about, a note in the mail with a cardinal on the writing paper, a greeting card. Everyday has brought multiple cardinals. I think Misty is sending her sign, and she’s going to be ok.
Many thanks to Derek Eisenberger and his wife Casey for getting Misty from the farmer and to Gail Stambaugh of DVDPA - Delaware Valley Doberman Pinscher Assistance, Inc for calling me and saying that she thought Misty belonged with us.
Our cabin is so quiet, even with five living beings in it. Misty was indeed the matriarch of the pack with a huge energy aura. Quincy and Zennie are quite subdued. They saw Misty after she passed, so they know she is gone. The change in energy in our home is palpable. There will surely never be another Doberman like Misty. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

She’s an angel of the first degree
She’s as sweet as Tupelo honey
Just like honey, Misty, from the bee…”
