🏆 THROWBACK THURSDAY | SPARTAN HISTORY 🏆

Every Thursday, we’re taking a look back at the moments, teams, coaches, and accomplishments that helped build the tradition of Spring Creek Athletics. 💜⚔️

This week, we’re looking back at a night when Spring Creek volleyball found the confidence and momentum it needed…
🏐 A MUCH-NEEDED WIN FOR THE LADY SPARTANS! 💜⚔️

The Elko Daily Free Press featured the Spring Creek girls volleyball team after the Lady Spartans delivered a convincing three-game sweep over Battle Mountain.

📰 The headline:
“Much-Needed Win — Spartans pick up victory vs. Longhorns”
🏐 Spring Creek controlled the match from start to finish, winning 25–8, 25–18 and 25–22.

💜 Coach Mike Meade said the team needed a confidence boost, and the victory showed improvement in nearly every area of play.

⚔️ Strong serving helped set the tone, while clean passing led to good assists and plenty of opportunities at the net.
🔥 The Spartans also put together several impressive serving runs, including three consecutive aces during the opening game.
🏐 When Battle Mountain battled back late in the third game, Spring Creek stayed composed and finished the sweep.

Coach Meade summed up the night with a lesson that goes far beyond one volleyball match:

“When some things start working, everything else starts falling into place.”
This wasn't a championship or a postseason victory — but that's exactly what makes it a great piece of Spartan history. Every season has moments when a team has to regroup, find its confidence, and keep pushing forward. On this night, the Lady Spartans did just that. 💜

It’s another reminder of the generations of athletes and coaches who have represented Spring Creek and helped build the tradition we’re proud to continue today.

💜 Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan. 💜

💜 MEET THE BOARD | ERNIE MENDEZ 💜

Concession Chair

After an incredible 30 YEAR career in education, Ernie Mendez recently retired from the Elko County School District after spending those three decades teaching at Spring Creek Middle School.

Born and raised in Elko and the youngest of six siblings, Ernie attended the University of Nevada, Reno before returning home and beginning his teaching career in Spring Creek.

Thirty years in the classroom represents thousands upon thousands of hours spent teaching, mentoring, encouraging and helping young people grow.

And retirement has not stopped Ernie from showing up for Spring Creek kids!

For the past several years, he has also volunteered with the Spring Creek Booster Club, working alongside an incredible group of volunteers to support the athletes of the Spring Creek community.

Thank you, Ernie, for 30 years of service to students and for continuing to give your time to Spring Creek student athletes! 💜

🏆 THROWBACK THURSDAY | SPARTAN HISTORY 🏆

Every Thursday, we’re taking a look back at the moments, teams, coaches, and accomplishments that helped build the tradition of Spring Creek Athletics. 💜⚔️

This week, we’re heading back to a season when the Spring Creek girls golf team showed that progress isn't always measured by where you finish, sometimes it's about how much you improve along the way.

⛳ SPARTANS CARD BEST SCORE OF THE SEASON! 💜
The Elko Daily Free Press reported that the Spring Creek girls golf team recorded its best score of the season at the Fernley tournament, an encouraging milestone for a young Spartan squad that continued to improve as the season progressed.

📰 The headline:
“Spartans card best score of season”

⛳ BreAnna Faulkner led Spring Creek with a 102, followed closely by Amanda Wild with a 104.
💜 Jenni Coxon recorded a 119, while Lisa Smith and Jaime Peterson both finished in the 130s.
🏌️‍♀️ Although Spring Creek finished fifth in the tournament, Coach Scott Gilligan was proud of the team's progress, calling it the girls' “lowest score ever.”

The Spartans entered the season as a young and inexperienced team, but as the year went on, their confidence and enthusiasm for the game continued to grow.

And their coach summed up the team's mindset perfectly:
“They’re looking to the future. They want to get better.”

With most of the squad expected to return the following season, the future of Spring Creek girls golf was looking bright. 💜⛳
This throwback is a great reminder that some of the most important moments in athletics aren't just championships and first-place finishes. They're the seasons when a team comes together, improves, builds confidence, and lays the foundation for what's ahead.

💜 Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan. 💜

💜 MEET THE BOARD | JODI NOTESTINE 💜

Alumni Coordinator

Jodi’s connection to Spring Creek runs deep. She was a member of the very first graduating class of Spring Creek High School in 1996!

For more than 20 YEARS, Jodi has volunteered her time supporting young people, including coaching volleyball and softball and spending several years coaching JV softball at SCHS.

Think about what more than 20 years of volunteering represents. Practices, games, planning, mentoring, encouraging and countless hours simply showing up for kids.

Giving back to the community that helped shape her has always been important to Jodi. She believes our kids are our future and that we have a responsibility to help guide them as they navigate the world ahead.

Jodi, thank you for more than two decades of giving your time to young people and for continuing that service through the Spring Creek Booster Club! 💜
