🏆 THROWBACK THURSDAY | SPARTAN HISTORY 🏆

Every Thursday, we’re taking a look back at the moments, teams, coaches, and accomplishments that helped build the tradition of Spring Creek Athletics. 💜⚔️

This week, we’re going back to 1997 and one of the biggest moments in Spartan history…

🏈 SPRING CREEK WINS ITS FIRST STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP! 🏆

On November 21, 1997, the Spring Creek Spartans made history, defeating Virgin Valley 20–6 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas to capture the school’s first state football championship! The next day, the Elko Daily Free Press celebrated the historic victory with a headline that said it all:

📰 “Spring Creek wins first state football championship”

The Spartans traveled to Las Vegas with the support of a proud Spring Creek community behind them and delivered when it mattered most.

💜 A tough Spartan defense held Virgin Valley to just six points.

⚔️ Spring Creek's offense put 20 points on the board to secure the championship.

🏆 And when the final whistle blew, the Spartans were bringing a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY home to Spring Creek!

That 1997 team helped write an important chapter in Spring Creek history and added to the foundation of the athletic tradition that continues today. Nearly three decades later, we’re proud to remember the entire team, coaching staff, families, students, and Spring Creek community who were part of this incredible season.

The 2026 season is here and our Spring Creek High School Spartans are ready to hit the field! ⚔️ The Elko Daily Free Press is taking a look at this year’s team and what’s ahead for the Spartans after finishing 4 and 4 in league play last season.

Good luck to our players, coaches and everyone who puts in the work behind the scenes. We’re excited for a great season of Spring Creek football and can’t wait to see our community filling the stands and cheering on our Spartans! 🏈💜
