In September 2004 the first class of students boarded our first floating classroom, SPLASH Steamboat. The steamboat was a replica of an 1800's sternwheeler, and served us many years an taught many lessons before she was sold and re-homed to Alaska. Now, we are on the hunt for a new vessel to teach the next generation! The main idea of a floating classroom is to inspire kids and to get them involve
d in learning, particularly about STEM sciences, the importance of the Delaware rivershed, and local history. Aside from the obvious lessons, like biology and aquatic studies math can be taught on the water, including the calculation of river speed, horse power and turbulence.
