In the heart of ๐——๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ป๐˜๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ป ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ, a newly transformed space is helping people relax, recharge, and invest in themselves. Opened on May 26, 2026, ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—บ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฉ๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ป & ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ has quickly established itself as a destination for beauty, wellness, and self-care in Southeast Colorado.

Owned by longtime Southeast Colorado entrepreneur and community advocate ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฎ ๐—ช๐—ผ๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฟ and managed by ๐—”๐˜€๐—ต๐—น๐˜† ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ด๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฎ, Summer Vibes Tan & Spa was created with a simple vision: provide high-quality wellness and beauty services locally so residents don't have to travel to larger cities to access them.

Located at 215 S. Main Street in Lamar, the business offers a wide variety of services under one roof, including UV tanning, spray tanning, full-body red light therapy, infrared sauna sessions, manicures, pedicures, facials, haircuts, tanning products, and natural peptide products. The team also plans to continue expanding its offerings as the business grows, creating even more opportunities for clients to focus on their health, wellness, and confidence.

What sets Summer Vibes apart is its commitment to creating a complete beauty and wellness experience rather than focusing on a single service. The recently renovated facility features multiple treatment rooms and carefully designed spaces that allow clients to unwind, recharge, and leave feeling their best.

"Our goal is to create a welcoming space where people can take a break from the demands of everyday life," Diana shared. "Everyone deserves access to quality self-care and wellness services, and we're excited to provide those opportunities right here in our community."

That community connection is a driving force behind the business. Diana chose to invest in Prowers County because it's home. Having spent years building businesses, supporting local organizations, and developing relationships throughout Southeast Colorado, she saw an opportunity to create something that would benefit both individuals and the broader community.

Like many new business owners, the journey wasn't without obstacles. One of the biggest challenges came during the renovation process, as coordinating construction schedules, contractors, and timelines often tested the team's patience and determination. Yet through every setback, they remained committed to bringing their vision to life.

Their greatest victory so far hasn't been a single milestoneโ€”it's been the ability to persevere through every challenge and continue moving forward.

"Starting a business is never easy, but every challenge has been worth it to see my vision become a reality," Diana said. "If there's one thing this journey has taught me, it's that perseverance, faith, and community support can accomplish amazing things."

Beyond serving clients, Summer Vibes is committed to supporting the community that supports them. The business actively encourages collaboration among local businesses, participates in community initiatives, and has partnered with Outlaw Faith, a nonprofit organization that assists women battling breast cancer. Their philosophy is rooted in integrity, kindness, and giving back whenever possible.

Diana also recognizes the mentors and supporters who have helped shape her journey. Inspired by hardworking entrepreneurs and community leaders who built businesses while serving others, she credits their encouragement, guidance, and example for helping her navigate the challenges of business ownership.

With a staff of five and plans to continue growing both services and membership offerings, Summer Vibes Tan & Spa is focused on creating lasting value for clients while contributing to the quality of life in Southeast Colorado. Their mission goes beyond beauty treatments and wellness servicesโ€”it's about helping people feel confident, cared for, and connected.

As Diana looks toward the future, one thing remains clear: "We are excited about what the future holds and are grateful to everyone who has helped along the way."

For Summer Vibes Tan & Spa, success isn't just measured by appointments booked or services offered. It's measured by the confidence built, the relationships formed, and the positive impact made within the community they proudly call home.

What started as a simple family outing during the COVID summer has grown into one of Southeast Coloradoโ€™s most unique outdoor recreation experiences.

Now entering its sixth season in business, ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฎ-๐—›๐—ผ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜€ ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜€ has become a familiar sight at North Gateway Park, providing affordable, family-friendly water recreation opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Owned and operated by Lamar High School alumni and brother-sister duo, ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜๐˜‡, the business specializes in nonmotorized water sport rentals including paddleboards, kayaks, and pedal boats.

Located at 5 Valco Road at the far east end of the ponds in North Gateway Park, The Aqua-Holics was born from a love of the outdoors and a desire to bring something new to the Lamar community. During an extended break from school due to COVID in 2020, Taylorโ€™s family borrowed a few kayaks and spent the day at John Martin Reservoirโ€”a trip that quickly sparked an idea.

โ€œAs a family that has always been drawn to the water, the experience instantly felt like the perfect fit for us,โ€ Taylor shared. โ€œThat trip led to conversations about how we could bring a similar recreation experience to Lamar and the surrounding area, and from that moment on, we never looked back.โ€

What began operating out of the family garage quickly evolved into a growing business fueled by determination, creativity, and community support. In those early days, Taylor and Treven transported equipment to the ponds using a trailer and custom-built kayak rack every time a customer booked a rental. A partnership with Lamar Parks & Recreation the following summer proved to be a major turning point, helping establish permanent infrastructure and allowing the business to continue expanding.

Today, The Aqua-Holics offers much more than equipment rentals. The business prides itself on being hands-on and beginner friendly, providing safety instruction, life jacket use, paddling tutorials, and even lessons for customers wanting a more in-depth experience on the water. Their goal is simple: create an inclusive, welcoming environment where people of all ages and experience levels can safely enjoy the outdoors.

That mission is reflected in their pricing philosophy as well. Despite growing demand, Taylor and Treven have intentionally kept their pricing affordable and have not raised prices in five years because they believe outdoor recreation should be accessible to everyone in the community.

For Taylor, one of the most rewarding parts of the business is seeing local kids and families enjoying the ponds during the summer months.

โ€œThe outdoors are for everyone,โ€ she says. โ€œCreating a safe space where kids can explore nature, spend time with friends, and learn about water safety while having fun is something really special to us.โ€

The business has also overcome its share of challenges along the way. Following severe flooding at North Gateway Park, their storage building filled with nearly a foot of water, forcing the family to remove, clean, and sanitize every piece of equipment before reopening. While the experience tested them, it also reinforced the resilience and commitment that has defined the business from the beginning.

Behind The Aqua-Holics is a true family effort. Taylor credits her parents, grandparents, and brother Treven for helping brainstorm ideas, supporting daily operations, and contributing countless hours to building the business over the years. She also expressed gratitude to former Lamar Parks & Recreation Director Rick Akers for believing in the business early on and advocating for its growth within the community.

Taylorโ€™s passion for healthy living and outdoor activity continues to shape the business today. A Lamar native, former Lamarlins swim coach, and current middle school teacher in Eaton, she sees The Aqua-Holics as another opportunity to encourage wellness, confidence, and connection through outdoor recreation.

Community involvement remains central to everything they do. From emphasizing water safety and environmental stewardship to creating memorable experiences for local families, The Aqua-Holics continues to prove that small businesses can make a big impact when they are built around passion, accessibility, and community connection.

As Taylor looks toward the future, one thing remains clear: this business has always been about more than rentals.

โ€œI want to extend a huge thank you to Lamar Parks & Recreation,โ€ Taylor shared. โ€œWe are incredibly grateful for the strong partnership weโ€™ve built through the last six years and for their continued support in helping create memorable experiences for our community. I look forward to continuing our collaboration and bringing even more fun, engaging, and exciting outdoor activities to families across our community for years to come.โ€

It has been one week since we introduced the WIN LOCAL Campaign, and we want to share an update of the next steps we are working on to continue Winning Local Business Back to Lamar.

Over the next few weeks and months, we will be preparing a series of communityโ€‘focused events designed to support our local businesses, strengthen customer experiences, and build a longโ€‘term mindset of choosing Lamar First. Here are some examples of what we are working on:

โœ” โ€œLamar First Town Hall Meetingsโ€ -- these simple meetings will bring local businesses and community members together to discuss what encourages residents to consider โ€œLamar Firstโ€ when shopping. This will be a continuation of the original Facebook discussion of โ€œHow do we encourage people to shop local.โ€ Whether it is pricing, value, selection, or serviceโ€ฆ These open and guided conversations will give businesses honest, constructive feedback from the people they serve, which can help them adapt to an ever changing marketplace and strengthen our ability to โ€œWin Local Business Back to Lamar.โ€
โœ” โ€œCustomer Experience Roundtablesโ€ -- scheduled to bring business owners and frontline staff together for open, supportive conversations about customer service. These are not formal trainings, but guided round table discussions that highlight how our local employees are often the first impression for visitors and tourists. They create a space to share best practices, ideas, and suggestions that help make everyday interactions a vital part of โ€œWinning Local Business Back to Lamar.โ€
โœ” โ€œExperience Lamar Workshopsโ€ -- designed to help ambassadors, community members, and local businesses learn more about Lamar and the surrounding area. This includes events, attractions, and hidden gems. Guest speakers for area events and attractions are welcomed to attend and share their information. These sessions will equip local business staff and residents with the knowledge they need to confidently guide visitors, answer questions, and help more people truly โ€œExperience Lamar!โ€
โœ” โ€œLamar Shoutโ€‘Out Sessionsโ€ -- created to encourage and train our businesses, ambassadors, and community members to share their great experiences. These sessions will highlight simple, effective ways to support local businesses with word-of-mouth advertising. From learning how to effectively post online reviews, to giving personal recommendations - we want to help showcase the wide variety of products, services, and hospitality available in Lamar to strengthen our ability to โ€œWin Local Business Back to Lamar.โ€

We will share dates and details of these events as soon as the plans are finalized. If you would like to become a Win Local Ambassador, Business, or Volunteerโ€ฆ Please message me, the City of Lamar, the Lamar Chamber of Commerce, or Prowers Economic Prosperity for more information.

Together, we are keeping the momentum goingโ€ฆ and continuing the work to โ€œWIN LOCAL BUSINESS BACK TO LAMAR.โ€

For more than 100 years, Lamar Light & Power (LL&P) has served as a foundational piece of infrastructure for Southeast Colorado, powering homes, businesses, schools, farms, and communities across the region. Established in 1920, LL&P has grown from a small local utility operating a single 2.5 MW steam generating unit into a modern public power provider serving approximately 5,600 customers across Lamar, Wiley, McClave, Bristol, and Hartman.

Headquartered at 100 N. Second Street in Lamar, LL&P now maintains more than 465 circuit miles of electrical infrastructure across a 167-square-mile service territory in Prowers and Bent Counties. Over the decades, the organization has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of the region through expanded substations, upgraded transmission capabilities, and investments in renewable energy generation.

Today, Lamar Light & Power provides safe, reliable, and cost-effective electrical service while continuing to modernize its system for the future. Current renewable energy efforts include 6 MW of wind generation and the ongoing development of a 5 MW solar project through ARPA funding, bringing the organizationโ€™s renewable generation portfolio to 11 MW.

Reliability remains at the center of LL&Pโ€™s mission. The utility operates a 24/7 Dispatch and Control Center to respond to outages and power quality concerns at any time, while also offering free energy audits and electric hot water heater rebate programs for customers.

โ€œProviding reliable power starts with investing in both people and infrastructure,โ€ shared Superintendent Houssin Hourieh. โ€œOur goal is to ensure the communities we serve have dependable electrical service not just today, but for generations to come.โ€

That investment strategy can be seen throughout the system. LL&P has implemented advanced technologies including SCADA systems, AMI metering infrastructure, GIS mapping systems, upgraded protective relays, and modernized substation equipment to improve efficiency, reliability, and outage response capabilities.

As a publicly owned, nonprofit utility directed by a local five-member board, Lamar Light & Power maintains a strong connection to the communities it serves. Beyond providing electricity, the organization actively supports local youth programs, scholarships, safety demonstrations for elementary students, and career development initiatives through Lamar Community College. LL&P also partners closely with organizations like Prowers Economic Prosperity and the Lamar Chamber of Commerce to support regional growth and economic stability.

With a workforce of 30 employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $17.5 million, LL&P also serves as an important economic contributor in Southeast Colorado. Ongoing investments into infrastructure, maintenance, and system upgrades help support both reliability and long-term regional development.

Looking ahead, LL&P continues to position itself for the future through projects including the Willow Valley Substation, additional system upgrades, expanded GIS capabilities, and renewable energy development.

โ€œSoutheast Colorado has tremendous potential for renewable energy growth,โ€ Hourieh said. โ€œAs infrastructure continues to expand, our region is uniquely positioned to play an important role in Coloradoโ€™s energy future.โ€

As an Investor-Level Member of Prowers Economic Prosperity (PEP), Lamar Light & Power plays a critical role in supporting business growth, workforce retention, agricultural operations, and overall quality of life throughout Southeast Colorado. Reliable and affordable energy remains essential to a strong regional economy, and LL&P continues to demonstrate its long-standing commitment to powering both communities and progress.

PEP is grateful for Lamar Light & Powerโ€™s continued partnership, leadership, and investment in Southeast Colorado. Through innovation, reliability, and community involvement, LL&P continues to help power the future of our region.

For years, most of the conversation around supporting our local small businesses has focused on what the consumer is doing with slogans like โ€œShop Local,โ€ โ€œBuy Local,โ€ or โ€œStay Local.โ€ Those ideas matter, but they only tell half the story.

The concept of โ€œWin Localโ€ shifts the focus to what our businesses and our community are doing to earn the trust and confidence of the people they hope to serve. It also assures the consumers that our local businesses and community members are working hard every day to WIN LOCAL BUSINESS BACK TO LAMAR.

In Southeast Colorado, where agriculture, ranching, and livestock are a way of life, the health and well-being of animals isnโ€™t just importantโ€”itโ€™s essential. Thatโ€™s where Tacktical Training and Therapeutics LLC, also known as ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—ง ๐—Ÿ๐—Ÿ๐—–, is carving out a unique and much-needed space in the region.

Owned and operated by Lamar Community College graduate ๐—›๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป, Triple T officially launched in March 2025 with a mission to provide a balanced approach to animal care by blending traditional training methods with innovative and holistic therapeutic treatments.

The name itself reflects Heatherโ€™s background and passion. โ€œTackticalโ€ is a play on the word โ€œtactical,โ€ tying into her deep roots in equine training and management, while โ€œTriple Tโ€ represents the three pillars of her business: training, therapeutics, and trust.

As a fully mobile operation, Triple T brings its services directly to clients whether thatโ€™s in Prowers County or far beyond. Heather has already worked with clients from Colorado Springs to western Kansas and as far south as Amarillo, Texas, meeting animal owners where they are and providing flexible, appointment-based services tailored to their needs.

Triple T offers a range of specialized services, including horse training, equine deep grooming, and Pulse Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapyโ€”a non-invasive, drug-free treatment designed to reduce inflammation, manage pain, and accelerate healing at the cellular level. Notably, Heather is currently the only provider offering PEMF therapy for animals in the region, filling a significant gap in available services for local ranchers and animal owners.

While her primary focus is working with horses and livestock, Heatherโ€™s services extend to a wide range of animals, always with the goal of improving mobility, comfort, and overall health. She emphasizes that PEMF therapy works best alongside traditional veterinary care and often collaborates directly with clientsโ€™ veterinarians to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Heatherโ€™s journey into this work is deeply personal. After one of her own horses suffered a severe injury from a snake bite, her veterinarian initially recommended euthanasia. Instead, Heather pursued PEMF therapyโ€”and the results were transformative. Her horse not only survived, but experienced significant healing and improved quality of life. That experience became the foundation for Triple T, inspiring Heather to bring these services to others facing similar challenges.

Like many start-up businesses, the early days came with challenges. From building a client base to managing the operational side of the business independently, Heather had to learn quickly and adapt. But those challenges have been met with meaningful victories including stronger-than-expected growth, new client relationships, and the opportunity to reinvest into her business and expand her capabilities.

Behind the business is a strong support system. Heather credits her boyfriend for helping fund early startup costs, her mother for assisting with marketing and business guidance, and her sister for supporting operations and traveling alongside her to promote the business. She also shares that her entire family continues to support her business by actively utilizing and purchasing her services. In addition, Heather recognizes mentors sheโ€™s connected with through the equine community, whose guidance continues to shape her growth.

A lifelong connection to animals has guided Heather every step of the way. Raised around horses and influenced by her motherโ€™s background in barrel racing, she has always known this industry was where she belonged. After graduating from Lamar Community College in 2023 with a degree in Equine Training and Management, she returned to Lamar full-time to build a business rooted in both passion and purpose.

As Triple T continues to grow, Heather is already looking ahead expanding her education through Angelsโ€™ Animals to broaden her therapeutic offerings and increasing availability as demand rises. She also remains committed to giving back, supporting local events and organizations while using her platform to educate the community on animal care and management.

At its core, Tacktical Training & Therapeutics is about more than servicesโ€”itโ€™s about providing options, improving outcomes, and helping animal owners feel confident in the care they provide.

Because in a region built on hard work and strong values, taking care of the animals that support that way of life mattersโ€”and Triple T is helping lead that charge.
