Join us in prayer for people in Alaska who were impacted by remnants of Typhoon Halong on Oct. 12. Dozens of homes have been swept away and destroyed by coastal flooding and hurricane-force winds, especially along the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta coast and in the communities of Kwigillingok, Kipnuk and Napakiak, where the storm hit the hardest. The flooding in these communities was made worse by the climate-change-induced loss of permafrost, making these areas extremely flood-prone.

As the waters recede and the scope of the damage becomes clear, we especially pray for those who are missing, for their loved ones and for those who have lost their livelihoods and homes. As we pray, we are also coordinating with the disaster response team of the Alaska United Methodist Conference as they communicate with the impacted villages and respond to their needs.
