Today, June 2, we pause to remember West Metro Fire Rescue Engineer Aaron Lybarger, who died in the line of duty on this day in 2018 after a battle with cancer caused by occupational exposures.
Aaron dedicated 26 years to serving our community- answering calls, helping others, and making a lasting impact on the people around him.
He was also a member of Colorado Task Force 1 and deployed to Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks, assisting with recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site.
Today, and every day, we honor Aaron’s service, his sacrifice, and the legacy he left behind. We keep his wife, their two daughters, his friends, and his West Metro family in our thoughts.
Aaron is deeply missed and will never be forgotten.

Memorial: A bronze life-sized memorial on pillars of Colorado rose granite forever marks the ultimate sacrifice these men and women made. It shows a firefighter rendering aid to a fallen comrade while two others continue to battle the blaze. This signifies the necessity to complete the mission even while feeling the concern and grief for a comrade. The memorial is engraved with 174 names of Colorado’s fallen firefighters.
