CREA's Board of Directors gathered this week for the association's board meeting, hosted by White River Electric Association in Meeker, Colorado.

Prior to the meeting, board members and staff had the opportunity to tour Tri-State G&T's Axial Basin Solar Areas 1 and 2 and the associated substation, gaining valuable insight into the infrastructure and energy resources helping power Colorado's future.

Today, CREA's Board will meet to discuss key issues impacting Colorado's electric cooperatives and continue the important work of supporting the co-op communities we serve.

Thank you to White River Electric Association for hosting this week's meeting and providing an opportunity to learn more about the energy investments taking place in northwest Colorado. ⚡

Colorado’s electric cooperatives are taking proactive steps to help reduce wildfire risk this summer. One of the most important ways co-ops do this is through ongoing vegetation management around power lines and electric infrastructure.

Trees and overgrown vegetation that come into contact with power lines can create serious safety hazards, especially during hot, dry, and windy conditions. By trimming and maintaining these areas, co-ops are helping reduce the risk of outages, protect infrastructure, and support broader wildfire mitigation efforts across the state.

While vegetation management can sometimes change the appearance of trees and landscapes, this work plays a critical role in helping keep communities safe and power reliable throughout wildfire season. ⚡

This year, CREA is proud to once again partner with NRECA International and fellow statewide associations to bring electricity to rural villages in Guatemala. But this effort goes beyond power.

As part of the 2026 project in Montenegro and El Estocal, volunteers will also support a meaningful community giveback initiative — helping transform a school’s outdoor storage space into a fully functioning kitchen.

This kitchen will provide students with access to nutritious meals and a safe, dedicated space for food preparation — something the school currently does not have.

💛 How you can help:
Donations will directly support building and equipping the kitchen with essentials like a refrigerator, cooking tools, and shelving. Support the project here: crea.coop/community-outreach

Together, we’re not just bringing electricity—we’re helping build stronger, healthier communities.

The countdown to Washington D.C. Youth Tour is officially on! ⏳⚡

Students from electric cooperatives across Colorado and Wyoming are preparing for an unforgettable experience through the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour program.

This experience gives students from across both states the chance to travel to Washington, D.C., meet elected leaders, explore our nation’s history, and connect with other young leaders from across the country. More importantly, the program helps equip students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make a positive impact in their schools, communities, and future careers.

We’re excited to see this year’s delegation represent their co-ops — and debut this year’s official Colorado and Wyoming Youth Tour shirt! 👕🇺🇸 To learn more about Colorado’s Youth Programs, visit crea.coop/community-outreach.

🇺🇸 Today, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

As we spend time with family and community, we reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and honor the legacy of those who gave everything.

We had a great time last week at the recent CREA HR Conference hosted by Poudre Valley REA!

Co-op human resource leaders gathered to dive deep into what truly energizes our teams, finding practical ways to reduce friction, boost communication, and strengthen collaboration. 🤝

From navigating employment law and safety to mastering de-escalation, this year’s conference was all about building a supportive workplace culture. Of course, we balanced the hard work with some cooperative fun at dinner and an escape room challenge! 🔐

Each May, hundreds of lineworkers gather in Grand Junction, CO, for the Mesa Hotline School—a hands-on opportunity to sharpen skills, expand knowledge, and strengthen safety practices. ⚡

The school brings together everyone from experienced professionals to those just beginning their careers in electric linework, all with a shared focus on advancing the latest safety techniques and best practices.

CREA’s Safety Department, including Mike Pendy, Marv Powell, Tara Calhoun, and Curt Graham, proudly supported the event the past two weeks as part of the training field safety team. Co-op general managers also toured the site to see the training firsthand, showing their deep commitment to keeping our crews safe on the line.

Colorado’s legislative session has officially come to a close. ⚖️⚡

Throughout the session, CREA worked alongside lawmakers, industry partners, and Colorado’s electric cooperatives to advocate for policies that support reliable, affordable energy and protect the interests of the communities co-ops serve.

From monitoring key legislation to engaging directly with policymakers, CREA remains committed to ensuring the voice of Colorado’s electric cooperatives is represented at the State Capitol.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the legislative process and helped advance conversations impacting rural Colorado and the future of energy in our state. 👏

Electric linework carries inherent risks, requiring precision, discipline, and a strong safety culture. Through the Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP), Colorado’s electric cooperatives are reinforcing that culture through peer-driven reviews, shared learning, and continuous improvement. ⚡️

By bringing together safety professionals, line supervisors, and operations leaders, RESAP helps identify risks, strengthen procedures, and elevate safety standards across the cooperative network—often exceeding regulatory requirements.

Programs like RESAP demonstrate the power of collaboration in protecting the workforce and ensuring that those who keep the lights on can return home safely every day. Read this month’s industry story at coloradocountrylife.coop.
