This past weekend, Troop 212 Scouts and families enjoyed an awesome Family Beach Camp at San Mateo Campground in San Onofre State Beach, with plenty of time spent at nearby San Clemente State Beach. We grilled burgers, relaxed by the ocean, and made great memories together.

The highlights included an adults vs. Scouts volleyball match and a creative sumo wrestling pit built by the Scouts for some friendly competition. At the end of the day, the pit was completely filled back in, following the Leave No Trace principle and leaving the beach just as we found it.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun-filled weekend of Scouting, fellowship, and outdoor adventure!

πŸ•οΈβšœοΈ Troop 212 Pioneering Challenge Weekend! βšœοΈπŸ•οΈ

After spending last month sharpening their pioneering and Scoutcraft skills, our patrols put those skills to the test during a weekend-long patrol competition at Fort Tejon! Scouts competed in a series of challenges that tested teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and outdoor skills, including:

πŸ”₯ Fire Building
πŸ₯” Potato Peeling Relay
πŸ’§ Solar Still Construction
🚩 Battleship with Morse Code Flag Signals
β™Ώ Wheelchair Race
⛑️ First Aid Challenge
πŸ•οΈ Shelter Building with Tarps, Bamboo Stakes, and Lashings
🧭 Orienteering Course

Each patrol earned points, with the highest-scoring patrol taking home the ultimate prize: Troop 212 bragging rights! πŸ†

Of course, it wasn't all competition. Scouts enjoyed plenty of downtime to play a game of baseball, explore historic Fort Tejon, and cook some amazing camp meals with their patrols. Great job to all of our Scouts for demonstrating teamwork, resilience, and Scout spirit! And congratulations to the winning patrol.

Congratulations to Troop 212’s newest Eagle Scout, Alexander Militello, Eagle Scout #188!

For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Alexander led landscaping and improvement efforts at the front entryway and memorial garden of Lakewood First United Methodist Church, the longtime host and supporter of Troop 212.

His project included improving and enriching the soil, planting new rose bushes, installing w**d barriers and fresh mulch, repairing damaged lighting, and adding memorial plaques dedicated to loved ones of church members. The revitalized garden creates a peaceful and welcoming space for reflection, remembrance, and community gathering.

Alexander has also been a dedicated leader within Troop 212. He first served as Patrol Leader, then Senior Patrol Leader, before returning to serve once again as a Patrol Leader. Throughout his leadership journey, he helped mentor younger Scouts, strengthen troop activities, and build teamwork within the troop. Alexander also led his patrol to victory in the Troop 212 Pioneering Event and helped guide Troop 212 to earn the prestigious Baden-Powell Honor Troop Award at Camp Marin-Sierra this past summer.

Alexander’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to service have left a lasting impact on both the troop and the community. Troop 212 is proud to celebrate his achievement and officially welcome him as Eagle Scout #188.

Congratulations, Eagle Scout Alexander Militello!

This Memorial Day, our Scouts had the honor of participating in the annual flag placement at Cypress Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Walking quietly through the grounds, Scouts searched for veteran grave markers, carefully placing a small American flag at each site before pausing to offer a salute in recognition of their service and sacrifice. It was a meaningful reminder that freedom is never free, and that every name represents a story of courage, duty, and dedication to our country.

We are proud of our Scouts for taking part in this tradition of remembrance and respect as we honor those who served our nation.

Special thank you to our Scouts who also captured these moments through photography. All photos were taken by members of our troop.

Congratulations to Troop 212’s newest Eagle Scout, Ryan Droney, Eagle Scout #187!

After six years of dedication, leadership, adventure, and service, Ryan Droney has officially earned the rank of Eagle Scout!

Ryan currently serves as Troop 212’s Senior Patrol Leader and has held numerous leadership positions throughout his scouting journey, including Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He also represented scouting leadership at Sea Base.

Along the way, Ryan earned more than 50 merit badges, camped over 75 nights, and began his scouting path as a Cub Scout by earning the Arrow of Light rank.

For his Eagle Scout Project, Ryan led the revitalization of the front planter at Lakewood First United Methodist Church to create a more welcoming and attractive entry to the campus. The project included new landscaping, mulch and timber edging, sprinkler and equipment cover improvements, soil enhancements, and stucco repairs to help beautify and enhance the church grounds.

Ryan’s hard work, leadership, and commitment to scouting have made a lasting impact on Troop 212. Congratulations to Eagle Scout #187. We are proud of you and excited to see what the future holds!

πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Troop 212 Takes on 55 Miles! πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

55 miles of adventure, effort, and a whole lot of determination.

Our Scouts set out along the San Gabriel River Trail, heading north to the Whittier Narrows Dam before looping down the Rio Hondo River Trail and connecting into the Los Angeles River Trail. We regrouped and refueled at Hollydale Regional Park, then pushed on to Rainbow Harbor, earning those ocean views. From there, we rolled across Alamitos Bay and through Belmont Shore before heading back up the river to close the loop.

The ride had it all:
πŸ”§ Flat tires (handled trailside like pros)
🌳 A water break at Bosque del Río Hondo
β›ͺ A visit near the original San Gabriel Mission site
🏎️ Took in the sound of cars drifting at the Long Beach Grand Prix
🍦 Popsicles at Belmont Shore Beach

After 9 hours in the saddle, the biggest takeaway was not just the mileage, it was the teamwork, resilience, and positive attitude from start to finish.

Big congrats to all who completed the ride, and to those who earned their Cycling Merit Badge along the way.

55 miles. One unforgettable ride. πŸ’ͺπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ
