Big victory for Platform based workers Internationally!

Today the UN's International Labor Organization adopted the Convention on Decent Work in the Platform Economy.

It affords protections to all platform-based workers despite their classification. It enshrines bargaining rights; social welfare access and a slew of groundbreaking protections Unions and workers have long fought for since the inception of this form of work.

Local 7777 is proud to have participated in the formation of this Convention along with all of our partners internationally and nationally with Action Center on Race and the Economy Gig Workers Rising PowerSwitch Action

Drivers at the airport took spontaneous action after learning that Governor Jared Polis vetoed HB 1210. Across Colorado, drivers are struggling with declining fares, rising vehicle costs, long unpaid wait times, and algorithms that make decisions about their livelihoods with little transparency or accountability. Many drivers wore red ribbons as a symbol of solidarity and a simple message: drivers deserve dignity.

We refuse to accept a system where those doing the work are paid less while billion-dollar companies take more. Drivers are standing together for fair fares, respect, and a real voice in the industry. We will be back and we will keep coming back until drivers get the dignity & respect they deserve.

We are deeply disappointed in the loss of HB26-1273. But there is hope through HB26-1210 for drivers who are increasingly being exploited by rideshare companies, which has passed and is now on Governor Polis's desk. 1210 would ban individualized price and wage setting through discriminatory algorithmic data. Governor Jared Polis please sign this bill.
