Looking for socially conscious businesses that might help our community aid network.
Hi! One generous neighbor has just donated a refrigerator to us for use as a free community fridge - currently there are 3 in place around the Denver Metro area and we would love to add one in this general vicinity.
We are partnering with Denver Community Fridge who will have an artist paint the exterior of the fridge (the ones I have seen are amazing!), help us get the word out, and generally offer us support and advice.
Right now, with a fridge donated, we need to find a business that is willing to let us place it on their property. All that is required from the business is access to electricity - we can provide an extension cord if needed. Next to the fridge, we envision a shelving unit for dry and canned goods (so an overhang or awning is helpful but not necessary). Denver Community Fridge says "Businesses/folx who want to host need to be socially conscious & prioritize protecting the houseless community who interact w/ the fridge". We don't require the business to stock the fridge - we as a community will do that! - but it is a bonus if they can.
We will make a point of promoting the business as one who is supporting LakewoodCAN and, more importantly, the community at large, many of whom are suffering from food insecurity, even if they are housed. Think of it as a large free food pantry.
We are also hoping that our neighbors will support any business that is willing to take on this assistance!
3 of the community fridges I am aware of are located at the Mutiny Cafe (Baker - Broadway & Ellsworth), Huckleberrys Roasters (Sunnyside - Pecos & 43rd) and Base Coat Nail Salon (Five Points - Walnut & 27th). Any kind of business can be a fridge location!
Please PM me with any suggestions, or if YOU may have a business that would love to help!
Peace, love and food for all!
