💔 A Heartbreaking Update on Cashew 🥜🐾

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share that our sweet little Cashew has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.🌈

Overnight, Cashew developed a fever and began experiencing severe seizures that, despite the veterinary team's best efforts, could not be brought under control.

After everything this little guy had been through, we were faced with the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully rather than allow him to continue suffering.

One of the hardest parts of rescue is accepting that even with all the love, knowledge, resources, and medical intervention in the world, sometimes we simply cannot save them. Sometimes the kindest and most compassionate thing we can do is recognize when the fight has become too much and love them enough to say goodbye.

We had so hoped for a different ending for Cashew. He came into our lives unexpectedly, and although his time with us was far too short, he mattered. He was loved. And he didn't have to face his final days alone.

Unfortunately, even though Cashew is no longer with us, we are still facing a significant veterinary bill for his emergency hospitalization, diagnostics, treatments, and end-of-life care.

We know asking for donations after losing an animal can be difficult, but these expenses are a very real part of rescue. Any contribution toward Cashew's outstanding medical bills would be deeply appreciated and will help us continue caring for the many animals who depend on Angels With Paws.

We couldn't give Cashew the future we wanted for him, but we gave him love, comfort, medical care, and a chance. And when there was nothing more we could do, we gave him peace.❤️

🐾❤️ Wait… isn’t Angels With Paws a CAT rescue?!

Well, yes. Yes, we are. But at the heart of it all, we are animal rescuers. And when an animal in need crosses our path, it's pretty hard to turn away.

Everyone, meet Cashew! 🥜🐶

Cashew is a young puppy who was found in desperate need of medical attention. When attempts to contact his owners went unanswered, we had a choice to make.

And really, there wasn't much of a choice at all.

Cashew needed help. So we helped.❤️

Unfortunately, this adorable little guy has some pretty significant medical challenges. He's already been to the vet multiple times, and we're still searching for answers.

Here's what we know:

🐾 He's ridiculously adorable. Obviously.

🦈 He has SO MANY TEETH that veterinarians have affectionately nicknamed him "Shark Mouth."

🧠 His skull is misshapen, raising concerns about possible neurological abnormalities, including CH.

💔 He experiences episodes of extreme lethargy, sometimes becoming nearly unresponsive and appearing unable to see or hear.

🩺 We're investigating some serious possibilities, including a liver shunt or brain lesion.

❤️ And perhaps most importantly? He knows his name. Our little Cashew knows he's Cashew, and we're pretty sure he knows he's loved.

Unfortunately, things have taken a scary turn. Cashew is currently back in the emergency hospital after experiencing severe seizures. 💔

We're awaiting test results and more information, and we're incredibly worried about this little guy. We don't know what his future holds, but we do know that Cashew deserves a chance.

Hello there! This pretty girl with green eyes and a sleek black coat is Raven. You can often find here perched in a high spot where she can survey her surroundings. She’s a little shy, but don’t let her reserved side fool you, Raven is a friendly kitty who just needs some time to feel comfortable. She’s 1 1/2 years old and would do best in a home without small children. Other calm animals may be ok. Want to win her heart? Churu treats are the way to go! This Saturday’s dinner might bring back some delicious memories! 🌮

Longtime Arvada residents may remember the family-run Underground Mexican Cafe, owned by Debra, Ted Talamantez and family. Well, we’re lucky enough to have Ted himself and his daughter Cassandra—our Angels With Paws Adoption Counselor—cooking the entire meal for our silent auction dinner!

We’re so grateful to this father-daughter team for sharing their time and cooking talents to help the cats in our care.

Meet Dusty! This sweet 5-year-old girl is ready to make herself at home in your heart. She’s the type of kitty that will greet you when you walk through the door and soak up some pets. Dusty is a big cat with lots of love to give and will need a weight-maintenance diet to help her stay healthy and happy. Dogs and kids are unknown, but she may do ok with other mellow cats. **Foster to Adopt** Say hello to Sky! This big, fluffy boy is basically a professional cuddle buddy. He absolutely loves being held and would happily spend all day in your arms if you let him. He’s also another one of our kitties that came all the way from Kuwaiti to start a new chapter. Sky is 4 1/2 years old, very chatty, and may do best as the only cat. Dogs and kids are unknown. We have an announcement… 🧡

You know Hays.

Hays, who came to us this spring all the way from Hays, Kansas, with a partially degloved arm.

Hays, who has spent months and months healing that arm.

Hays, who has made it through half of a full-mouth dental extraction — with the second half happening this week.

Hays, who lives with severe HCM.

Hays, who LOVES food, hanging out in his tent, showing people around, greeting guests, and making absolutely certain he is the center of attention.

You know… THAT Hays.

The giant love bug who has become a favorite of guests, volunteers, and staff alike.

Well… we decided to adopt him. 🥹

Hays is officially an Angels With Paws ambassador and, honestly, the thing about him that may seem scary to everyone else doesn’t scare us at all. We know his heart is exactly why we love him so much — in every sense of the word.

So please help us officially welcome Hays to the Angels With Paws family. ❤️

Hays will continue doing what he does best: greeting the many people who walk through our doors, soaking up all the love and attention he can get, and joining us at calm events where he can help people learn more about special-needs kitties and the work we do at Angels With Paws.

Some cats come through our doors on their way to their forever home.

Every once in a while, we realize they’re already home.
