We would like to express our deepest condolences to our colleagues at Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services and to Dr. Ackrell’s family. Our hearts are with you all.

It is with profound sadness and extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Austin-Travis County EMS Associate Medical Director Dr. Mark Ackrell, who died unexpectedly yesterday morning at his home.
 
Dr. Ackrell has served our department for nearly 17 years, and has been part of the Austin medical community for much longer.

Services for Dr. Ackrell are still being planned, and we will share those details as they become available. Please keep his family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time.

🚒 Lake Travis Firefighters Association 🚒

Today, we pause to remember the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. We honor the brave souls, first responders, and everyday heroes who rushed in when others rushed out. They showed the world the true meaning of courage, sacrifice, and unity.

We also remember the innocent lives lost on that fateful day and hold their families and loved ones in our hearts. Their memories serve as a constant reminder of the resilience and strength of the human spirit.

Let us never forget the unity that emerged in the aftermath of the attacks. On this day, and always, let’s stand together, hand in hand, honoring the past and looking forward with hope.

FINAL UPDATE: All lanes are fully open. Normal traffic patterns have resumed.

UPDATE 2: All eastbound lanes are open. Westbound remains closed while crews continue cleanup.

**Traffic Alert** Hwy 71 between RR 620 and Hamilton Pool Rd is shut down in both directions due to a large fuel spill. The road will be shut down for several hours, please avoid the area.

Firefighter Coleman Peavy recently joined the Pedernales Electric Cooperative for a reading of Fire! Fuego! Brave Bomberos by Susan Middleton Ella.

Firefighter Peavy also participates in the Lake Travis Safety Squad, visiting local schools every year to put on shows teaching children about fire safety.

Where’s all that smoke coming from?

The city of Bee Cave is conducting a controlled burn off Hwy 71, right next door to McCoy’s. Expect periods of heavy smoke as new material is added to the pile throughout the day. Weather conditions are optimal and are on scene to provide safety support and rapid response in the unlikely event of any escaped embers.
