4-H and FFA members- it is the first pre-fair weigh-in for 2026! In order for your market animal to be shown at the Lake County fair, you must attend one of the county weigh-in’s. If you have a back-up steer, it must also be weighed and tagged at one of the weigh-in locations also. Dennis Sheridan will be available at the Lakeview weigh-in to brand inspect steers, please bring your bill of sale (if you purchased your steer) and money for the brand inspection.

4-H and FFA members, please remember to take your completed thank you cards to your leader to proofread them and check them off. Do not turn them in to the sale office- they go to your leader or advisor.

Leaders and advisors, please proofread thank yous, make sure they are addressed, seal them and when you have collected all your group’s thank yous, bring your packet to the sale office.

Thank you!

Happy night before fair Eve everyone! The sale committee would like to wish everyone safe travels to fair tomorrow. We have such a big county and it’s great to come together and see everyone! As always anyone who would like to remember Mr. Waldron and his years of service to our programs feel free to wear Hawaiian shirts, we could always count on that rain or shine from Mr. Waldron!

We know there are tons of nerves out there, first year moms and dads trying to figure out fair and if they are doing everything just right. First year members who are excited and nervous about what to do. Families and members hoping for those few extra pounds to make weight. Please feel free to reach out for help or with questions, we’ve all been a first timer! Older members, be sure to set great examples and look out for our new exhibitors and give them a helping hand or encouraging word. Trust me it makes a difference! We have new leaders and volunteers, be sure to help support them as well! We will see everyone tomorrow and are looking forward to a great weekend!

As we begin setting up stalls, stapling up decorations, and getting in line to weigh animals on Thursday for the 2025 fair please try to remember this is a fun but stressful time for many. We have many volunteers and individuals who are trying to accommodate more and more animals into our facilities that were not designed for today’s animal sizes and number of participants. Everyone who volunteers or works to make the fair happen wants this to be a great experience for every child, but please remember that each member has invested time and money into their projects and is not more important than anyone else, we are all one of many! Please reach out with questions, but treat everyone with kindness and respect, be courteous and let’s have a great weekend!

It’s down to crunch time! Here are a few last minute reminders. Beef exhibitors, please be mindful of setting up your fitting chutes in the weigh-in area until after market weigh-ins have come to a close. Keeping them folded down, leaned against tie racks/fences, or being mindful of where you are setting up in relation to trailer traffic and weighing is helpful. Last year a number of chutes had to be moved before weigh-in.

Attached is the map for weigh-ins. Please remember sheep and goats should lead-in from the parking lot for weigh-in. No changes were made to the map, so if you have shown previously the procedure is the same.

You know what makes your weigh-in crew really happy on Thursday? Clean eartags so we can verify and double check those numbers! As you are doing clipping and fitting this weekend, don’t forget to scrub those tags, especially on the hogs, it’s a huge help!

We have some very important information that we know some families have been waiting on. After much discussion and deliberation, this is the rule passed by the Sale Committee to clarify weight discrepancies and the use of back-up animals in the case a primary animal does not make weight. We want you to read this information very carefully as we want to continue making sure our weigh-in process runs smoothly and efficiently. If you have any suspicion that your primary animal will not make weight and you have any distance to travel you should be bringing that back- up with you, we will not run weigh-in beyond our scheduled time for individuals to travel and pick up animals. Also, if you have a back-up animal and your primary animal is most definitely going to make weight, this is not the time to be deliberating on what animal you want to show, that decision needs to be made prior to fair. These rules are here to make sure members have the greatest chance to participate in the case of extenuating circumstances so PLEASE read carefully and reach out to us with questions prior to weigh-in if needed.

New clarification:

1)Weight discrepancies that do not deal with an animal making minimum weight must be declared at the scale. The animal will be taken off the scale, scale will be balanced, and the animal will be reweighed. The second weight will be the weight that is used.
2) If a member weighs their primary animal and it does not make weight and they have a tagged back-up animal as an individual or household, they may opt to weigh and use the back-up animal at the end of the designated weigh-in time for that species.
3) If a member weighs their primary animal and it does not make weight and they do not have a tagged back-up animal, they may take their animal to their assigned pen in their designated barn and feed and water their animal using 4-H and FFA approved guidelines and bring the animal back for a reweigh at the end of the designated weigh-in time for that species. If the animal still does not make weight the member is still eligible to participate in showmanship and may put up a sign to sell their animal after the completion of the sale on Saturday.

Reminder, the preferred deadline for Buyer’s Photos are this Friday, August 22nd. Our volunteer working on Buyer Posters wants to remind all members please take your photo in landscape format and do not crop the photo. You will receive an email from them indicating if your photo is approved or denied with what needs fixed. Please put the member’s first and last name as it should be spelled in the subject line. If you have multiple members in your family, please send them each in a separate email with each member’s name in the subject line. This helps make sure the information on the poster is correct. We know that taking photos for these posters is extremely stressful, but our buyers do enjoy them and many hang them up proudly in their businesses showing their support of our youth! Thank you all for your effort!
