Scarlet's Kids Foundation

Scarlet's Kids Foundation We give gifts and support to hospitalized and chronically ill children. Without these donations, serving these amazing children would not be possible.
(1)

Scarlet’s Kids Foundation was founded by Barbara Wibe, Scarlet’s mom, who spent countless days and nights bedside at Children’s Hospital with her sick baby. During her stay she discovered that the bland and boring setting of a hospital room was a difficult and challenging environment for children of all ages. So she came up with the idea to brighten a child’s day, while giving support to their fam

ilies, and soon Scarlet’s Kids was born... gifting hospitalized children & providing support and resources to families. Barbara’s ideas have blossomed, from just a few people looking to give back, to a full fledged 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. Started in February 2015, Scarlet’s Kids Foundation is committed to providing relief to underprivileged families during their child’s hospital stay with support groups, gasoline and grocery gift cards that often times come hidden in a handmade gift basket filled with toys, clothes and activities. We can only achieve these goals with the assistance of donations from members of our community. Since our organization relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses, we are asking you to consider a donation to our cause.

⚡A Superhero Basket for a Superhero Girl

Seven-year-old Emery from Escondido should have been thinking about recess, friends, and what to draw next — not hospital rooms and monitors.

But last week, Emery was admitted to Rady Children's Hospital with pneumonia, Influenza A, and painful oral thrush. What started as a tough illness quickly became overwhelming. She was so sick she couldn’t eat for an entire week. To help her body heal and get the nutrition she desperately needed, doctors placed an NG tube.

For a little girl who should have been running and laughing, it was a lot to carry. That’s when Scarlet’s Kids Foundation stepped in.

Last Thursday, my daughter Scarlet and I personally walked through those hospital doors carrying something a little different than medications and monitors — a very large superhero gift basket made just for Emery.

Inside were dolls, fidgets, books, erasers, signs, stickers, paints, stuffed animals, a new shirt, playing cards, and even a special teddy bear with a hidden pocket — a tiny place to keep treasures, notes, or brave little secrets. It wasn’t just a basket of toys. It was a reminder:

You are still a kid.
You are still brave.
You are still stronger than this moment.

We handed the basket to her sweet mom, hoping it would bring light into a heavy week. And it did.

Today, we’re celebrating something beautiful — Emery is now drinking her Pediasure on her own and is back at school.

From NG tubes to the classroom in just days.
From hospital monitors to morning attendance.

This is why Scarlet’s Kids exists — to bring comfort, distraction, and hope to children facing medical challenges, and to remind families they are not alone in the hardest moments.

Way to go, Emery. Your superhero strength was there all along. 💕

🌈 Wrapping Jahzara in Comfort & Color 💕

At just 11 years old, Jahzara has been facing something no child should have to endure. For reasons still unknown, she has been vomiting blood up to 12 times a day. The physical toll is unimaginable — and so is the emotional weight that comes with so many unanswered questions.

But even in the middle of all of that… Jahzara is still a bright, animal-loving girl at heart. 🐾 She loves cats, dogs, and all creatures big and small.

So that’s exactly what we sent her.

Her special package was filled with comfort, creativity, and care:

✨ A thick, cozy blanket to wrap her in warmth
🐱 A cuddly cat Squishmallow to keep her company
🌈 A Lisa Frank coloring book with bright markers
🐯 A rainbow tiger full of personality
💗 A heart-shaped keychain
💅 Nail polish for a little sparkle
🥿 Soft slippers
🎀 Hair ties and a beautiful flower hair clip with a “J” just for Jahzara
💎 A necklace and earrings
🎧 Headphones for quiet moments
🪮 A travel brush and scented lotion
🦋 A handmade zipper pouch covered in butterflies

And because hospital visits and appointments add up quickly, we are also sending $50 to help with gas or whatever her family needs most right now.

When a child is walking through something this heavy, sometimes what they need most is to feel seen. To feel remembered. To feel like someone out there cares.

Jahzara, we see you.
We are cheering for you.

And we hope every colorful, cozy piece of this gift reminds you that you are surrounded by love. 💕

Thank you to our supporters who make moments like this possible. You are bringing light into some very dark days. 🌟

❄️ Meet Esmae: A Little Lakeside Warrior Wrapped in Frozen Magic ❄️

This week, we had the honor of gifting sweet Esmae, a brave little girl from Lakeside, and her family while she’s hospitalized and fighting so much at such a young age.

Esmae is a triplet, born at just 29 weeks, and has been fighting since day one. After enduring countless surgeries and hospitalizations, she beat cancer last year—and now, once again, she’s showing the world just how strong she is.

Esmae, who's is 3 years old, was recently admitted after passing a significant amount of blood in her stool. Since then, she’s endured an endoscopy and colonoscopy, with a PIC line and CT scan next, all while battling three concurrent infections and a UTI. And through it all? She’s been an absolute trooper. 💪✨

We sent over a FROZEN-themed gift to bring a little comfort and magic into her hospital room ❄️

💙 a tea set

📚 activity books

🛌 a cozy blanket

🤖 an icy robot dragon

🎂 a play-dough cake making set

…and of course Anna and Elsa plushies—one of which you can see Esmae hugging tight 💕

In addition to the gift, Scarlet’s Kids Foundation also Venmo’d the family a small grant to help ease the financial strain that comes with extended hospital stays and medical uncertainty.

This family has been through so much, and we’re grateful to be able to show up for them in a small but meaningful way. Thank you to our community for making moments like this possible.

🎄One Last Christmas Story: Scarlet’s Kids Foundation had the honor of bringing a little extra love and light to a very special family.

Four-year-old Kaia lives at the Bernardy Center and faces immense medical challenges. She has Gould syndrome (COL4A1), experienced a brain bleed in utero, and is non-ambulatory, non-verbal, and legally blind. Her mother applied for our program after a recent hospitalization. Despite all she has endured, Kaia is deeply loved—and this season, we wanted her and her family to feel that love wrap around them.

Kaia was gifted a beautiful music machine, something she can enjoy in her own way, through sound and comfort. I also shopped for a few pairs of glasses for Kaia to add to her growing sunglass collection, chosen especially for her. Her six-year-old sister Makayla received a bead set, a gift chosen just for her—because siblings matter too, and their joy deserves to be celebrated.

This gift would not have been possible without an incredible group of people coming together and was valued at about $150.

💗 A huge thank-you to Jenna, our dear friend and volunteer, who delivered the gifts with care and compassion.
⛽ Heartfelt gratitude to JoAnn, who donated $50 to help cover gas costs so the family can continue visiting Kaia in the nursing home—a gift that truly supports connection and love.
🎁 Thank you to our Secret Santa, Marlena, who helped shop for this family and made sure every detail was thoughtful and intentional.
🧸 And a special shout-out to Dan, whose claw machine winnings added a little extra fun and surprise to the gifts.

This is what Scarlet’s Kids Foundation is all about—community, compassion, and showing up for families navigating the unthinkable. Thank you to everyone who made this Christmas moment possible. 🎁🎄

In early December I had a man contact me who wanted to donate 40 stuffed dolls he won from claw machines! I'm so thankful he thought of Scarlets Kids for his donation and grateful that Ronald McDonald House referred us to him. Remember if you want to donate we only take unused, new items due to infectious disease protocol. Thanks again Dan & Sharon T. ❤️🙏☺️

🌲A Christmas Miracle for the Hayes Family

Just before Christmas, I received a message from a mom named Brittany. She wasn’t asking for much—just help. Help for her children. Help to make Christmas possible. Hope, really.

The Hayes family has endured a level of loss and struggle that no family should ever have to carry.

In June of 2025, Brittany lost her 8-year-old son, Braydenn, due to a traumatic brain injury caused by medical negligence. Braydenn was the twin brother of Braylynn, and his sudden loss shattered this family’s world. Since then, Brittany and her children have been living in survival mode—trying to breathe, function, and keep going while carrying unimaginable grief.

As if that weren’t enough, Brittany’s oldest daughter, Rosie (16), is medically complex and has been in and out of the hospital, adding another layer of fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty. Brittany is doing everything she can to hold things together after losing her little boy—while still caring for Rosie, Braylynn (8), Colton (6), and Collin (2½).

Grief & trauma don't pause the bills.
And sadly, stress doesn’t leave room to grieve.

When Brittany reached out, she shared that her kids weren’t going to have a Christmas this year. Between medical expenses, grief, and overdue bills—including electricity—she simply didn’t have anything left.

So Scarlet’s Kids Foundation stepped in.

We packed up a big box of Christmas gifts and mailed it all the way to Indiana—something special for each child, and a little something for mom too. It wasn’t just toys or presents; it was a reminder that someone sees them, that they matter, and that they are not alone.

Brittany later sent me this message, and with her permission, I’m sharing it here because it says everything:

“You don’t know how much this means to me because my kids were not going to have a Christmas this year, but thanks to you now they have something to open.”

“We have just been struggling so bad since my son’s death. It’s like we can’t even grieve because we’re so stressed out about everything else. And then adding the extra stress and pressure of Christmas made everything 100 times worse. Thank you so much for relieving that.”

She sent photos of the kids and the gifts (which I’m sharing here), though her oldest chose not to be photographed—because she’s 16 and wanted her hair and makeup done. 💔💕

This family is still in crisis. Christmas morning came and went—but the grief, the medical needs, and the financial hardship remain.

If you feel led, Brittany has a GoFundMe where she explains more about what her family is facing and how close they are to losing the last of what they have—including hope.

Even sharing this story helps.
Even one act of kindness matters.

Thank you for being part of a community that shows up for families when they are at their most broken. ❤️‍🩹🙏

At Scarlet’s Kids Foundation, this is why we do what we do. We exist to step in during the moments when families are overwhelmed by medical trauma, loss, and financial hardship—when the weight is too heavy to carry alone.

Sometimes that support looks like gifts under a Christmas tree. Sometimes it looks like reminding a grieving mother that her children are seen, remembered, and loved. 🫂

Because no family should have to choose between surviving and grieving—and no child should feel forgotten during the hardest chapter of their life.

💙 Remembering Ray Ray 💙

With incredibly heavy hearts, we are saddened to share that sweet Ray Ray's family is saying their last goodbyes.

Ray Ray was only 8 years old, and his light touched so many more people than he ever knew. Just days before he went into cardiac arrest, his mama applied for a Scarlet’s Kids Foundation gifting, and we were honored to be able to gift Ray Ray and his family during that time. We are so grateful we were able to bring a moment of joy and love to him before this happened.

Our hearts are broken for his mama and family as they face an unimaginable loss.

A fundraiser has been created to help his family with memorial expenses and to honor Ray Ray’s life. If you feel led, please consider donating or sharing to support them during this incredibly difficult time.

Most of all, please keep Ray Ray’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate the days ahead.

🎁 Scarlet’s Kids Foundation Christmas Gift Spotlight 🎁

This season, we had the honor of gifting a very special kiddo we’ve supported before — Ray-Ray, an incredibly strong 8-year-old from San Diego, CA.

Ray-Ray received a heart transplant on November 10th and has been in the hospital ever since, spending the holidays in a place no child should have to. His mom nominated him this year, sharing that Ray-Ray had one special Christmas wish: Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF) items before Christmas. 🧸🎮

I made a special shopping trip just for Ray-Ray to track down some Fazzbesr favorites, because every child fighting this hard deserves something that brings comfort, joy, and a sense of normalcy — even from a hospital bed.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, who give cash gifts throughout the year, we were able to make a special shopping trip to pick out exactly what Ray-Ray wanted for Christmas.

Being able to support kids like Ray-Ray — not just once, but again when they need us most — is exactly why Scarlet’s Kids Foundation exists.

We are deeply grateful to our donors and supporters who make moments like this possible. 💗 Please keep Ray-Ray and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he continues his healing journey.
