El Cap Student Receives the President’s Volunteer Service Award…

15-Year-old Robin Lynn Senne has been volunteering her services to the Riverview Water District since 4th Grade. Robin started out submitting posters for the district’s “Water is Life” Poster Contest…after winning several local grand prize awards, a Southern District competition and having her posters publis

hed - she retired from entering the competitions and focused on getting other kids involved in the program. Riverview Director, Irvin Lynn said “Robin has been one of the driving forces behind this program since its inception, we are proud to have sponsored Robin for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.”

Director Lynn estimates Robin has contributed 400 hours of service during the past 6 years! Robin created the “Water Wise Kids Club” of Lakeside; she created a logo to distribute to kids, she held slumber parties during which girls created posters depicting water being used wisely. Robin also hosts assemblies at Lakeside elementary schools promoting the poster contest, she sings songs, displays posters drawn by kids and ask the kids to join the Club! Over 1,000 Lakeside elementary and middle school children have participated in the Water Wise Kids Club! This year 166 students participated, 23 of which received trophies donated by the El Capitan Stadium Association! During Robin’s acceptance she stated “at first, I created posters just to win trophies, then something happened, I started noticing how people waste water, like having their sprinklers watering the street or sidewalk, I knew this wasn’t how to preserve our water supply. I had truly become a Water Wise Kid…just by painting pictures and writing the words Water is Life. This is so rewarding, helping the kids create posters, one of my favorite posters is one a little girl submitted of her in a bubble bath with her dog, the caption read Save Water takes a bath with your dog!”

Robin’s involvement with the District’s Water Wise Kids Club now includes serving as one of the poster contests judges, continuing to work with children creating posters, asking for donations of art supplies, and assisting with the awards ceremonies each year, from singing the National Anthem to helping distribute awards. The “Water Wise Kids Club” isn’t this young lady only volunteer service, this year she served as a “Big Sister” to 5 girls ages 6 and 7 years old. She is a volunteer for Mother’s Against Drunk Driving, she organized a team of 15 East County pageant titleholders to walk in the “Strides for Change Walk” last year and is again organizing a team for this years’ Walk. This past February Robin served as a team leader organizing a children’s book drive, over 50 new books collected were donated to the Lemon Grove Library, she also served as a team leader in collecting stuffed animals that were donated to local Firefighters for the Children’s “Burn Run”. Robin is a member of El Cap’s freshmen volleyball team; she is an award-winning vocalist and holds several pageant titles including Teen Miss California Princess and San Diego’s Outstanding Teen Princess. Bush congratulated Robin for her service and ask that” she continue to serve the community and that she invites others to serve too.”
