Last time, we learned that lament is a gift from God for the hard seasons of life. It is a form of prayer that can be written, sung, or spoken—a way of bringing our pain honestly before God. In lament, we learned to complain to God, ask of God, and seek to trust Him.

But what do we do when the pain is not just around us, but because of us? What do we do when we fall short, when we fail, and when our own sin has created the mess?

In Psalm 51, we will learn how to lament our sin—how God invites us to stop hiding, confess honestly, and receive the mercy only He can give.

La última vez aprendimos que el lamento es un regalo de Dios para las etapas difíciles de la vida. Es una forma de oración que puede expresarse por escrito, cantada o hablada: una manera de presentar nuestro dolor ante Dios con sinceridad. En el lamento, aprendimos a exponer nuestras quejas a Dios, a pedirle ayuda y a procurar confiar en Él.

Pero ¿qué hacemos cuando el dolor no solo nos rodea, sino que se debe a nosotros mismos? ¿Qué hacemos cuando no damos la talla, cuando fallamos y cuando nuestro propio pecado ha provocado el desastre?

En el Salmo 51, aprenderemos a lamentar nuestro pecado; veremos cómo Dios nos invita a dejar de ocultarnos, a confesar con sinceridad y a recibir la misericordia que solo Él puede otorgar.

What do you do when God feels silent?
Up to this point, we’ve talked about what lament is and looked at examples of lament throughout Scripture. This week, we’ll turn to the practical side of lament through Psalm 13.
What do you pray when you feel forgotten? Is it wrong to tell God how you really feel? What should you ask for when the situation is not changing? And how can a prayer that begins with “How long, O Lord?” end in worship?
Psalm 13 gives us a picture of what it looks like to bring our pain honestly before God without losing sight of who He is.
And perhaps one of the most important questions is this: What if God is already at work before your circumstances ever change?
This week, we’ll walk through David’s prayer and see what lament can look like when the pain is real, the answers are unclear, and God seems silent.
