Important Update from ECPA

To our amazing East County Parent Alliance community,

We wanted to share a quick update as we enter a period of transition. Over the past few years, ECPA has grown into something truly special — a place for connection, advocacy, and unwavering support for parents and students in our districts. We’ve stood together through challenges, celebrated wins, and worked hard to amplify the voices of families in East County.

At this time, the organization is going through some internal changes. While we may not be as active on social media for the foreseeable future, please know that the heart behind ECPA is still very much alive. We are still here — listening, supporting, and doing what we can behind the scenes to make a difference.

We’re taking this pause to reflect, regroup, and discern the best path forward. We remain incredibly grateful for this community and everything you’ve poured into it — your time, your encouragement, and your shared belief in the power of parents to influence positive change.

Thank you for sticking with us during this transition. We’ll keep you updated when there’s more to share.

With appreciation,
East County Parent Alliance

📢 Parents, take action this summer! The recent SCOTUS ruling in Mahmoud v. Taylor supports your right to opt out of curricula conflicting with your deeply held religious beliefs. Visit your district office to review materials and opt out as needed. 🌞📚
School districts, get ahead of the game—develop clear policies and opt-out forms before the new school year. Parents, ask about these updates to ensure your voice is heard!

🎉 Celebrating 4 Years of East County Parent Alliance! 🎉

Four years ago, in the midst of COVID mandates—masking, testing, and looming vaccine requirements—East County Parent Alliance was born. What started as a grassroots response to government overreach has grown into a powerful, trusted voice for parents and students across East County.

We believed then, and still do now, that parents are not obstacles—they are partners. Working together with schools is the only way to protect our kids’ education, values, and future.

In just four years, our parent-led movement has accomplished so much:
✅ 3 packed town halls featuring school board members, state superintendent and gubernatorial candidates, sitting mayors, senators, and local leaders
✅ Dozens of endorsed candidates—and we’ve proudly celebrated many of their victories
✅ Successful rallies, including our Santee YMCA rally to protect the spaces meant for women and girls, with hundreds in attendance and international media coverage
✅ Policy roundtable with Congressman Darrell Issa, partnering on the national Parents’ Bill of Rights
✅ Ruffled a few feathers, built lasting alliances, and earned the respect of families across East County
✅ And we’ve become a trusted source of local school board information and advocacy

From the classroom to the Capitol, we’ve made it clear: East County parents are paying attention—and we’re not backing down.

Thank you to every volunteer, parent, and supporter who’s stood with us through the years.

Enough is enough.
Five Republican officials in East County—Phil Ortiz, Scott Eckert, Rob Shield, Gary Woods, and Jim Kelly—are facing coordinated recall efforts. Instead of policy disagreements, they’re being targeted with smears, threats, and now violent, disgusting imagery from IG account

La Mesa City Councilmember .ca has crossed a line. She publicly applauded a grotesque social media post depicting Dr. Gary Woods, a Grossmont Union High School Board Trustee, in front of blood splatter with a pick in his hand—mocking him and implying violence. Her comment? “Best post yet” with laughing emojis.

This is completely unacceptable. Elected officials should be held to a higher standard—not encouraging dehumanizing and violent content against fellow public servants.

We stand with our Republican officials under attack. And we call on Councilmember Cazares to apologize immediately and remove her endorsement of this dangerous rhetoric. Voters are watching. So are we.
