🐾 Help us welcome Katie to the Paws Plus Team! 🐾

We’re so excited to introduce our newest Veterinary Technician, Katie!

Katie comes to us with several years of veterinary experience, with a background in general practice, emergency and critical care, ICU, surgery, anesthesia monitoring, diagnostics, radiology, and patient triage. Basically, she’s no stranger to jumping in wherever she’s needed and we’re so happy to have that experience joining our team!

When she’s not taking care of patients, Katie stays plenty busy at home with two kiddos and her own crew of cats and dogs... including the newest addition to the family, her adorable puppy Eden, pictured here with her! So caring for animals (and managing a little chaos 😉) is pretty much second nature.

We’re excited for our clients and patients to get to know her and even more excited to officially say…

Welcome to the Paws Plus Team, Katie!

Our team may be smiling, but let’s be honest… the kittens are the real stars of this photo. 💜🖤🐾

Tiny paws, tiny meows, and a whole lot of cuteness made their way into the clinic today! It’s really hard to call this “work” when your patients look like this.

We love getting to care for them from their tiniest kitten days through all the years ahead.

Welcome to the Paws Plus family, little ones! 🐾

When you’re so comfortable at your very first vet visit that you start making biscuits… in the AIR. 🥹🐾

No blanket. No bed. No problem.

Sweet little Missy was working overtime at the invisible biscuit factory during her first visit with us. 😂💕 And we absolutely loved getting to meet her and her mom!

There’s something extra special about welcoming a new patient AND a new client to the Paws Plus family...especially when they’re this happy to be here. 💜🐱

Welcome to Paws Plus, Missy! We’ll take a dozen of those air biscuits, please. 🥹🐾

🐾 COMMUNITY CAT REMINDER! 🐾

Next week, we will ONLY be accepting Community Cats for spay/neuter on:

Sept 21st & Sept 25rth (Monday & Friday next week!)

So if you’ve got some community kitties that need to be fixed… get those traps ready and get to trapping this weekend!

As always, Community Cats must arrive in a humane trap, and availability is first come, first served. We may have to stop accepting cats once we reach capacity, so arriving early is always best!

💜 Thank you for helping us reduce the community cat population and keep our local cats healthier!

⚠️ PYOMETRA AWARENESS ⚠️
At the end of last week alone, our team performed THREE emergency surgeries for pyometra. 1 cat and 2 dogs!

Pyometra, often called “pyo,” is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that can occur in unspayed female dogs and cats. It typically develops after a heat cycle, and once it happens, these pets can become very sick very quickly.

Signs can include:
• Lethargy or weakness
• Not wanting to eat
• Vomiting
• Drinking or urinating more than usual
• Vaginal discharge
• A swollen or painful abdomen
• Fever or simply “not acting right”

And here’s the scary part: with a closed pyometra, there may be NO vaginal discharge at all.

Treatment often means emergency surgery to remove the infected uterus and ovaries. This is very different from a routine spay on a healthy pet. A pet with pyometra is already sick, and delaying treatment can lead to sepsis, uterine rupture, organ damage, and death.

❤️ The good news? Pyometra is preventable.

Spaying your dog or cat removes the uterus and ovaries, preventing pyometra while also eliminating the risk of an unexpected pregnancy.

The photos included with this post are from real cases we treated recently. We’re sharing them because sometimes seeing what pyometra actually looks like makes the importance of prevention much more real.

If you have an intact female dog or cat and have been putting off her spay, please consider getting it scheduled. A routine spay is much safer, simpler, and less expensive than an emergency pyometra surgery.
