Lakeland Skaters Alliance

Lakeland Skaters Alliance This is a citizens group formed to support, to accommodate the ever-growing number of skateboarders.

When the City of Lakeland announced that the land containing the Adair Skate Park was going to be sold to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, a group of several dozen skaters came together to ask the city to build a quality replacement. The Lakeland Skaters Alliance worked closely with the city Parks and Recreation department to demonstrate the need for a quality skate park, help design a quality pa

rk, and support the park once it became active. The goal of the Lakeland Skater's Alliance is to represent the skate community, and make sure that the Lakeland Skate Park stays a quality part of the Lakeland landscape for years to come.

Let the wheels roll once again inside the skatepark!

From the City of Lakeland:

🙌The Lakeland Skate Park is reopening tomorrow (June 1) and we look forward to seeing our skateboard community back in the bowl 😉. We have made a few adjustments to help provide a safe experience for everyone:

- Seating areas will remain blocked off to discourage groups from congregating
- BRING WATER - Parks & Recreation water fountains are currently covered, please stay hydrated
- We encourage everyone to follow all Florida Department of Health and CDC guidelines regarding social distancing and best practices in public spaces
- Staff will be disinfecting high touch areas throughout the day. - Users should feel free to bring hand sanitizer and/or sanitizing wipes to help with this process.

*The Lakeland Skatepark is currently closed in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus. It is scheduled to reopen June 1st *

Hallelujah! we are SO happy to share that the Lakeland Skate Park is OPEN!!!!! This has been a frustrating delay due to issues with high lake water levels following Hurricane Irma causing ground water issues .

We have had MANY in the skateboard community reach out and ask how to help at the Park. Please feel free to reach out the Lakeland Skaters Alliance. The planning and building of this park was a labor of love between the City and the skateboard community. There are obviously issues we wish did not affect certain features, but we hope that ultimately it is providing a location that benefits the skateboarding community in Lakeland.

There was some structural damage to the various metal shade coverings that are potential hazards if they were to fall on someone in the park. That's what I understand as the reason the skatepark has not opened back up yet. I'll try to get a better report tomorrow. Thanks! Rudy
