A message from Polk Pride President, Scott Guira in response to the inquiries regarding the level of safety at this year’s Polk Pride events:

I have personally met with the Lakeland Police Chief and Assistant Chiefs about Polk Pride events and I’ve had follow up contacts with those scheduled to work at our events.

THINGS TO KNOW:

🔴 LPD has assured me they are taking the necessary additional security measures.
🟠 Extra police officers will be on site at all Polk Pride organized events this year.
🟡 LPD is supporting our efforts to have protestors isolated away from our events. We encourage and expect everyone not to engage protestors.
🟢 DRAG IS NOT A CRIME. And we have mutual understanding with local authorities regarding our abilities to offer the same entertainment you’ve come to love at our events. Drag performances will take place at our Pride in the Park and Pride After Dark.

We look forward to celebrating Pride with you all. 🌈

This has been an extremely challenging week for transgender Floridians – as so many anti-LGBTQ+ attacks were signed into law. One law, SB254, has been particularly devastating, cutting off access to healthcare for transgender youth and also impacting care for many trans adults.

The Campaign for Southern Equality, in partnership with Southern Legal Counsel, Inc. and Equality Florida, are here to help: We can talk you through options for continuing healthcare in state and out of state, and emergency grants are available to support you through this challenging time. Protest at Harrison/Lakeland High School

Time to get our human rights back!
March 31st, after school from 2 until 3:30, we’re gonna be protesting for q***r youth rights at school! HB 999, HB 254, and HB 1223 are three of the major house bills we are protesting, please do some research on these bills and other anti-q***r (and pro-q***r) bills so you know the current status of your rights. We will gather immediately after school, to the right of the Harrison car line. This is a statewide protest, hundreds of Florida schools are getting involved at the same time on the same day. Flags, signs, etc., are welcome and encouraged, but please remember that whatever you bring will have to be **safe for school,** and this protest is after school.

This protest is welcome to any students who can come! Any age, grade, and regardless of which of the two schools you attend!!!!

This is a protest under Project Caerus, a link is provided below. There, more information about the main three bills I mentioned can be found, as well as more information about the mission! https://www.projectcaerus.org/events

**PLEASE spread the word,** let’s make our voices heard. The bigger the crowd, the bigger the impact, tell your friends to tell their friends to tell their friends, we can make a difference!!!!
