We have someone offered to transport waiting for a call back.
Intake Info: Cornelius is a handsome, fluffy 3-year-old boy who was found running loose in traffic. The finder was able to safely secure him, and he was social with their dog. On intake, he allowed handling, though he showed some hesitation with restraint. A microchip scan led us to his owner, who shared that she had been trying to rehome him. She admitted that she first attempted to leave him in Jacksonville, and when that didn’t work, she drove him to Jupiter and abandoned him in a parking lot. She remained long enough to watch him approach a man and, seeing them engage briefly, drove away believing he would “find a better home” on his own.
Medical: Cornelius has been fully processed, is current on vaccines and rabies, and tested heartworm negative. He is currently being treated for kennel cough.
Staff Notes: Despite everything, Cornelius has continued to seek connection. He enjoys going for walks and has allowed full petting when handled calmly. He passed barking dogs in the kennel without reacting and showed curiosity and playfulness outside, even chasing lizards with interest. He can be uncomfortable with restraint and having his paws touched, which is understandable given his recent experiences.
However, the shelter environment is beginning to take a toll on him. The noise, confinement, and constant stressors are wearing on his spirit, and he is struggling to fully settle. He is starting to show signs of emotional strain from the transition and the heartbreak of losing the life he knew.
Rescue Request: Cornelius is a young dog whose trust and sense of security have been deeply shaken. Being abandoned by his owner and now trying to cope in a stressful shelter environment has been overwhelming for him. He needs a rescue that can give him space to decompress, patience to feel safe again, and the chance to heal. With support and stability, Cornelius has every potential to become a deeply devoted and loving companion, he just needs someone to show him he was never disposable.
