PEACE - Polk Ecumenical Action Council for Empowerment We are a multiracial, interdenominational, non partisan 501(c)3 nonprofit. We are devoted to identifying problems facing the community of Polk County.

PEACE is a congregation-based direct-action organization founded in 2001 that engages diverse, Polk County congregations in doing justice by identifying the root causes of community problems and taking action. We are a direct action organization that proposes policy solutions to public officials in order to get to the root causes of community problems.

“There used to be five adult day care centers. They all closed. There used to be an adult assisted living facility and that has closed. The facilities have been reallocated, the funds have been reallocated to infrastructure projects,” said Rev. Lois Sorensen, PEACE board member.

- Pastor Rayford Harper received the award honoring the late Rev. Alex Harper with the Lifetime Justice Seeker Award
- Terry Bucher and Dan Stoller won the You+3 raffle
- Robert Frazier received the award for First Missionary Baptist Church Winter Haven Florida for highest dollars raised in 2023
- Christine Goding received the award for the leader who raised the most in the 2023 congregation drive
- Audrey Oliver received the award for New Bethel AME Lakeland for the highest percent increase in the 2023 congregation drive
- Delphine Kendrick received the Nehemiah Cup for Hurst Chapel AME Church turning out the most people to the 2024 Nehemiah Action with 238 people
- Alice Hallinan and Doretha Tillman won the 2024 Unsung Hero Award
