Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. FRLS is a non-profit law firm serving 13 FL counties, offering low-income individuals access to justice through legal advice, representation, and advocacy.

Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. (FRLS) was founded in 1966 as a private, non-profit corporation. FRLS provides free civil legal assistance to low-income people in thirteen counties in South Central Florida. FRLS assists clients with legal issues in Consumer, Employment, Public Benefits, Economic Stability, Housing, Elder, and Farmworker law, as well as Civil Rights and Family Law. FRLS also pro

vides legal assistance to migrant workers throughout the state of Florida. Currently, FRLS has seven regional offices with a staff of over 100, including 50 plus attorneys, and approximately 10,000 closed cases each year. Community leaders helping spread the word about our free legal services on the Treasure Coast. We were honored to welcome Michelle R. Miller, Clerk & Comptroller for St. Lucie County, to the grand opening of Florida Rural Legal Services' new Treasure Coast office in Port St. Lucie.

As part of the celebration, Michelle shared how FRLS continues to make a difference by providing free civil legal services to qualified everyday people throughout our community.

The relocation from Fort Pierce to Port St. Lucie continues to strengthen our ability to serve residents across the Treasure Coast and connect individuals and families with the legal help they need.

Two years ago, Vanessa was drawn to FRLS because of its commitment to ensuring people in rural communities have access to justice and support, especially those who may not have the resources or ability to obtain legal help on their own.

She started out as a receptionist, was promoted to Legal Secretary a few months afterwards, and has recently stepped into a new role as a paralegal. Knowing that what she does helps people get through some of the most difficult moments of their lives is what fuels her passion for her work.

After her mobile home was damaged by two major hurricanes and became uninhabitable, our client needed to finalize her insurance claim quickly so she could sell the home and relocate before the next storm season.

FRLS helped her gather available documentation, negotiated with the insurance company, and secured an additional $1,937.13, even though she no longer had all of her receipts or photos.
