Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. FRLS is a non-profit law firm serving 13 FL counties, offering low-income individuals access to justice through legal advice, representation, and advocacy.

Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. (FRLS) was founded in 1966 as a private, non-profit corporation. FRLS provides free civil legal assistance to low-income people in thirteen counties in South Central Florida. FRLS assists clients with legal issues in Consumer, Employment, Public Benefits, Economic Stability, Housing, Elder, and Farmworker law, as well as Civil Rights and Family Law. FRLS also pro

vides legal assistance to migrant workers throughout the state of Florida. Currently, FRLS has seven regional offices with a staff of over 100, including 50 plus attorneys, and approximately 10,000 closed cases each year. On August 26, we co-hosted a Labor Rights Day Event in Immokalee with the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, the Farmworker Association of Florida, and the Mexican Consulate in Miami.

Staff talked about your rights and protections as a worker, how to tell if something's not right at your workplace, what to do about it, and important safety info to keep you protected on the job.

Our Immokalee Office serves farmworkers across the entire state of Florida. As a non-profit law firm, we provide education, legal information, advice, and representation to eligible workers on issues that directly impact agricultural workers — including employment, benefits, discrimination, housing, safety, and other civil legal matters.

Florida parents: you have the power to take back your consent for special education services — at any time, in writing.

Under federal law — IDEA, 34 CFR § 300.300(b)(4) — if you are a parent of a child currently receiving special education and related services, you may revoke your consent at any time. You simply need to do so in writing.

Once the school district receives your written revocation:
✅ The district must stop providing special education and related services
✅ The district cannot use mediation or a due process hearing to override your decision or force services to continue
✅ The district must send you a Prior Written Notice before services officially cease
This is your right — and no school can take it away.

⚠️ But this decision comes with serious consequences you should understand first:
Once you revoke consent, your child loses all IDEA protections, including their IEP, related services (like speech or occupational therapy), and special discipline protections. If you later want services reinstated, the school must treat it as a brand new initial evaluation, starting the process over from scratch.

You also cannot revoke consent for just one service to pressure the school but you can consent to some services and refuse others. The school cannot force you to accept an IEP on an "all or nothing" basis.

💡 Before revoking consent, talk to a special education advocate. There may be better paths, like requesting an IEP meeting, filing a state complaint, or pursuing due process that protect your child's services while resolving your concerns.
