May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, and we believe that a healthy family starts with healthy people. At LFC, we know that asking for help is one of the bravest things you can do. This month we're here to remind our community: you are not alone, and support is closer than you think.

What a great night at Budget Boss! We are so grateful to Lakeland Church of Christ for hosting and to FMB for sponsoring the meal and door prizes for our April session. A big thank you to Mr. Bryan Williams, Chief Credit Officer at FMB, for leading such an informative and practical conversation about budgeting, banking, and loans.

If you missed it, do not worry! Join us for our next Budget Boss on May 14th at 6 pm as we dig into credit and your credit score. Dinner and childcare will be provided. We would love to see you there!

There are no words big enough to describe what it feels like when strangers show up for your community the way Hightower Baptist Church did for ours today.

When wildfires began devastating parts of South Georgia, Natalie saw the need and got to work. She researched, she reached out, and she discovered that firefighter supply donations could come to our office and that items for families who had lost their homes could go to Brantley Family Connection. So she rallied her church, and they answered in the biggest way.

This morning, Natalie, her mom, and her brother loaded up and drove all the way from Cherokee County to Lakeland to hand deliver every single item collected by Hightower Baptist Church. That is love in action.

During Hurricane Helene, we witnessed this same outpouring of generosity from communities miles and miles away from us. It never gets old. It never stops being meaningful. And it never fails to remind us why we do this work.

We are so grateful to be part of the Georgia Family Connection Partnership, 159 counties strong, all working every single day to care for the families in the communities they serve. Because of networks like this one and people like Natalie and her family, no community has to face hard times alone.

When the wildfires began we volunteered to be a drop off location for items for the firefighters. We have just been blown away with all the support. Today Camron delivered a trunk full of items. He and his wife worked with friends and family to gather donations!

We are so excited to be one of the 11 organizations to be awarded the Community Coalition Grant from the Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy GCSU. This funding will help us not only continue our work with Baby Bulldogs, but make it stronger than ever.

Congratulations to our Berrien County neighbors for also receiving this award. We are honored to work along side you!

The decisions are in, and the Deal Center has chosen 11 community coalitions to award our Community Coalition Grant! Each grantee has put forth a project intended to improve literacy outcomes and identified who will help them do it in a thorough plan of action—because it takes all of us to create meaningful change.

The following groups have demonstrated a determination to transform literacy practices in their communities by bringing together cross-sector collaborators.

Tier 1 grantees ($10,000 award): WACO Reads (Washington County), Lanier Commission for Children Youth and Families Inc., Building Brains from the Beginning, Inc. (Fayette County), and Family Connection/Communities In Schools of Berrien County, Inc.

Tier 2 grantees ($14,000 award): Whitfield County Schools, For the Love of Reading, Inc. DBA Thomaston-Upson Literacy Alliance, Madison County School District, Tri-County Family Connection (Montgomery, Treutlen, and Wheeler Counties), Brightpaths (Clarke, Oconee, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, Oglethorpe, and others), and Los Niños Primero (Fulton, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, and Gwinnett).

Tier 3 grantee ($24,000 award): Sumter County Schools.

Is a project starting up, or sustaining impact, in your county? Keep an eye out for additional details about these projects and their impact as they work to implement each project. Congratulations to the grantees!
