DON'T CRY AT MY FUNERAL.
JUST GET UP AND WALK OUT LIKE YOU DID WHEN I WAS ALIVE.
Read that again.
I know that's a hard thing to hear.
Maybe even uncomfortable.
But sometimes the truth is uncomfortable.
Too many people wait until a funeral to express love they never showed when the person was still breathing. They wait until the obituary is written to talk about how much someone meant to them. They wait until the casket closes to say all the things they should have said while there was still time.
The truth is, flowers are beautiful.
But presence is better.
Kind words are powerful.
But hearing them while you're alive is even more powerful.
Support means more when it's given during the struggle than when it's spoken about after the battle is over.
The older I get, the more I realize that life is incredibly fragile. The people we assume will always be here won't always be here. The phone call can come unexpectedly. The goodbye can happen without warning. The opportunity to tell someone you love them can disappear forever.
That's why I've learned not to save important words for later.
Tell people you appreciate them now.
Tell people you're proud of them now.
Tell people you love them now.
Show up now. Forgive now. Reconnect now.
Because one day "later" runs out.
And trust me... The greatest tribute you can give someone isn't the tears you shed after they're gone.
It's the love, loyalty, and presence you gave them while they were still here to feel it.
