Lakeland Library History Series

Thursday, 2.23.23 at the Lake Morton Library beginning at 5:30 pm.
Join us for a glimpse into the private life of Henry B. Plant during the Gilded Age. The “King of Florida” developer created the Tampa Bay Hotel (We visited in late November)and built the railroad that made Lakeland a town!
Award winning historian and Polk County native, Canter Brown, Jr., will present an interesting program!

Learning about the beauty in our own backyard. Natalie Whitcomb and her husband Charles Cook gave us a little geological and environmental tidbits as we strolled along the trails and boardwalk at Lakeland Highland Scrub park. Afterwards we satisfied our hungry tummies at Catfish Country for lunch.

Another fantastic DAR Field Trip exploring Lakeland’s Highland Scrub! Our own Charles Cook and Natalie Whitcomb, environmentalist, scientists and activists, led us on a short hike through the Scrub explaining various ecosystems, plants and waterways! What a gem we have in south Lakeland! Many thanks Charles and Natalie! We had a great time!

Lakeland Chapter, NSDAR is proud to announce our annual fundraising event, Appetizers and Airplanes, to benefit local veterans initiatives. Proceeds from the event will be used to send a local veteran and chaperone on the Honor Flight to Washington DC, among other opportunities.
In this catered event, you will sample food and wine pairings amongst vintage airplanes, aviation artifacts from Howard Hughes estate, a multi-sensory Globe simulator experience and more!

One of DARs mission is historic preservation. Lakeland Florida has the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. In Grand Rapids, MI the Meyer May House has been restored by the Steelcase company, an example of FLW prairie style.
