Sadly in the rescue/rehabber world I see fellow rescuers I know personally and those I “know” through following for years giving up on everything and calling it quits on this unimaginably hard thing called life.
The things we see day in and day out, the abuse and neglect, the bullying, the name calling, the photos of dying animals, the rumors, the witch hunts, the accusations without facts, the lack of support, the isolation, the losses, the ones who witch hunt for drama, when they could spend their energy volunteering to help, the stress… it is a very fragile tap dance to keep our minds positive and continue marching forward.
And then when we say “I need a break”, even for a day, the emails, the texts, the phone calls, the berating, it never stops.
There are no true breaks in rescue.
We just suck it up, push it back, show a strong face to the world, and we keep going.
Because if we truly stop, we know deep down in our sensitive souls that animals die. And those of us who choose to dedicate our lives to doing this, we can’t handle that fact. It’s gut wrenching to us who see the faces every night when we close our eyes, the faces of the ones who didn’t make it that day because we couldn’t say “yes” and there simply was not enough room in the shelter anymore.
All of this to say, I’ve been there. We’ve all been there.
We have all been attacked, we have all had lies and rumors spread.
IT SHOULDNT BE THIS WAY.
Support the rescues and rehabbers you love.
And if you don’t love them, simply scroll by or unfollow them. The unnecessary jealousy, hate, disgusting behavior has to stop. Words can cut like knives. And some of us take those words to heart.
I thank you and every single person who follows, supports, volunteers, fosters, sends the dogs positive thoughts and prayers… I thank you for being the driving force backing us up all the time.
Begging for donations is my absolute least favorite thing I have to do to keep this rescue running.
But I thank you for giving me grace and support when I have to.
Hug your dogs, hug your friends. Hug your favorite animal rescuer if you can.
We’re all hurting a little more lately. 🐾❤️🙏
