Platform Art

Platform Art www.platformart.org It all began in San Francisco in 2002-2003. And the art party events were born. And the Florida Platform was hatched in fall of 2003.

A group of out of work creative dot comers got together with an innovative idea of what viewing art could be. Well, not just viewing art, but experiencing art – visual art, film, fashion, sound & performance. All it took was one visit to a Platform event in SF for the vision to travel cross county to Florida. For the past 6 years more and more people have been following Platform to surprising venu

es all over town. Today Platform is the highest attended art event in Polk County. Platform was voted the best art event of 2008 by readers of Arti-i-facts Magazine. Platform Art is unique and non-traditional in its approach to exhibiting art and experiencing art in its many forms. Each show presents artwork and performances that ZING the imagination.

Platform Art is delighted to present Insider’s Look.

Insider’s Look is an exhibition of paintings, photographs, and drawings created by undergraduate students at Florida Southern College (FSC). Under the guidance and assistance of Professor Kelly Sturhahn, via the Art Theory & Practice course, students have come together to curate, manage, and install a professional gallery exhibition. The exhibition will be on display and viewable from March 26th through April 5th.

The student's selection of works will showcase and explore identity in a conceptual manner as it pertains to their lives. Viewers will gain perspective of this demographic and be
introduced to complex aspects of day-to-day life and how it impacts the formation of the youth.

The works will display identity from the perspective of various persons. Therefore, the viewer will have a chance to see the concept emanate a spectrum of emotions through visual
manifestations. Some pieces hone feelings of unnerving and discomfort while others carry bits of relatability and an eerily smoothing presence. These pieces visually represent differing
components and challenges that have become the foundation of identity for these students. There will be many distinct experiences and forms of expression to adhere to the audience, from thought provoking conceptual pieces to carefully crafted images.

As the creators and curators of Insider’s Look, the students hope to engage the audience on both a physical and psychological level.
