It’s hot. It’s dry. Please don’t burn, as it can get out of hand quickly in current conditions.

🚨 A QUICK REMINDER

One of the blessings of living in a small town is that everybody knows somebody. Chances are, you have the personal phone number of at least one of our firefighters. But we need to ask everyone to remember something important:

If you need the fire department, please call 911. Do not call or message an individual firefighter. Almost every member of our department works a full-time job in addition to serving this community. Our firefighters have families, children, jobs, appointments, responsibilities, and sometimes serious family matters happening behind closed doors that the public may know nothing about. They are volunteers, but that does not mean they are personally on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Calling a firefighter’s personal cell phone, texting them, or contacting them through Facebook or Messenger does not notify the department. It only notifies that one person. That firefighter may be at work, asleep, driving, caring for a family member, at an appointment, already on another emergency call, or even outside our area assisting another department.

We have the best of the best dispatchers for this reason! Calling 911 gets help headed your way as quickly as possible. If Lake VFD is already committed to another call, assisting another department, or otherwise unavailable, dispatch knows that. They can begin working to get another department headed your way instead of precious time being spent trying to reach one individual firefighter who may not be able to respond.

When you call 911, you don’t have to figure out who’s home, who’s working, who’s already on a call, or whose family may desperately need them that day. Dispatch handles that for us, and again, we have the best of the best in both counties.

We love serving Lake and Scott County. Our members have dropped what they were doing countless times to answer a call for someone else, and they’ll continue doing it. But behind every radio number is also a real person with a job, a family, responsibilities, and a life outside of the fire department.

🚒 Need the fire department? Call 911.
Not a firefighter’s personal cell phone. Not Facebook Messenger. Not their spouse or family. 911. Every time.

It gets your emergency into the system, gets the appropriate resources moving faster, and allows our volunteers to serve this community without expecting any one member to be personally available around the clock.

Help us help you: make 911 your first call, not your last. ❤️🚒

As many of you are aware, former Mayor of Lake and Capitol Police Officer Donald Simpson and his wife, Casey, lost their home to a devastating fire yesterday. Since then, so many people have reached out asking how they can help. A GoFundMe has been created to help Donald and Casey as they begin the overwhelming process of rebuilding and replacing what was lost. We’re sharing it here for anyone who would like to help, whether through a donation, sharing the fundraiser, or simply keeping them in your thoughts and prayers. Every bit of support means something when a family is suddenly faced with starting over.

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July from all of us at Lake Volunteer Fire Department! 🇺🇸

Today marks 250 years since a bold idea became a nation. For two and a half centuries, Americans have answered the call to serve, whether in uniform, behind a badge, on a fire truck, in an ambulance, or simply by being a good neighbor when someone needs help.

As you celebrate with family and friends, we hope you’ll take a moment to remember those who fought for our freedom, those who continue to defend it, and the everyday men and women who keep our communities safe.

If you’re celebrating tonight:

🎆 Leave the fireworks to responsible adults.
🚗 Never drink and drive.
🔥 Keep a water source nearby if you’re using fireworks.
🚒 If you need us, we’ll be here.

From our firehouse to your home, we wish you a safe, fun, and blessed Independence Day.

Happy 250th Birthday, America! ❤️🤍💙
