Celebrity spotlight on Blake Lively. Check out the speech she gave on child s*xual exploitative material, otherwise known as child p**n. We need to work together to prevent child abuse, child s*xual abuse and child trafficking. Keep track of your children, know who is around them, predators have grooming techniques to get close to parents and gain their trust. There is unfortunately a lot of family trafficking as well. https://youtu.be/hMVHz-1I1zY

The current national COVID-19 mortality rate for Black Americans is 2.1 times higher than that of Whites. In this commentary, historical context is provided on how structural racism undergirds multi-sector policies which contribute to racial health inequities such as those highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic. A call to action and plan to move forward to address structural racism and advance health equity for Black Americans through anti-racism, implicit bias, and cultural competency training; capacity building; community-based participatory research (CBPR) initiatives; validated metrics for longitudinal monitoring of efforts to address health disparities and the evaluation of those interventions; and advocacy for and empowerment of vulnerable communities. This necessitates a multi-pronged, coordinated approach led by clinicians; public health professionals; researchers; social scientists; policy-makers at all governmental levels; and local community leaders and stakeholders across the education, legal, social service, and economic sectors to proactively and systematically advance health equity for Black Americans across the USA. What can you do to take action and be an ally?

CAN YOU SEE HER? The Criminalization of Women and Girls of Human Trafficking. Tuesday February 23rd 330-430pm EST

To better understand the high rates of trafficking among Black women and girls, research has indicated the continued s*xualization of Black women and girls’ bodies which has played out since slavery.
Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked worldwide – including right here in the United States. It can happen in any community and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. Traffickers might use violence, manipulation, or false promises of well-paying jobs or romantic relationships to lure victims into trafficking situations.

Language barriers, fear of their traffickers, and/or fear of law enforcement frequently keep victims from seeking help, making human trafficking a hidden crime.

Traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to lure their victims and force them into labor or commercial s*xual exploitation. They look for people who are susceptible for a variety of reasons, including psychological or emotional vulnerability, economic hardship, lack of a social safety net, natural disasters, or political instability. The trauma caused by the traffickers can be so great that many may not identify themselves as victims or ask for help, even in highly public settings.

To understand some of the basis for health disparities around Black individuals, it is relevant to understand Black experiences in the medical community. To understand health disparities and their prevention can lead to greater understanding of how to prevent human trafficking and its risk factors. "To be used in some type of experiment and then be forgotten. Why are you interested in me now?" This is one of many sentiments felt by African Americans. In one of many surveys conducted by researchers, African Americans feared they would be used as guinea pigs for medical research. This survey also found that blacks were more likely than whites not to trust that their doctors would fully explain the significance of their participation in clinical research or other studies. Many scientists believe that bad feelings make it difficult for them to recruit minorities as participants in biomedical research studies in different areas. There continues to be an underlying element of mistrust between the poor populations and minority populations that may be subjects of research and the research establishment. The perception of mistrust from the African American community is in large caused by their previous experiences with the health care system. However, the mistrust is not only in perception, but has many other reasons. Mistrust of the health care system by African Americans is a major problem that has to be addressed and corrected. This paper is a historical perspective of the African Americans relating to their distrust of research and the traditional health care system.

Why Black Women are More at Risk for Human Trafficking – and What Nurses Can Do to Help. Dr. Roberts-Tabb points out that because of social inequalities present in America for many years, African Americans often find themselves in “…situations of poverty, of absentee fathers and incarcerated parents.” She points out that historically, black women were exploited as a s*xual commodity, because they bore children and these children were forced into slavery. When it comes to human trafficking, everyone needs to be more vigilant. Educate yourself. When you see something suspicious going on, get authorities involved.

Celebrity spotlight Gabrielle Union as she speaks out against the gender and racial disparities that affect women and girls of color. She aims to bring more awareness to end abuse and exploitation of those most marginalized. Not only are they more likely to be trafficked, they are more likely to be criminalized and incarcerated for prostitution when they is no such thing as a child pr******te (it is called human trafficking). https://www.essence.com/culture/gabrielle-union-op-ed-human-trafficking-women-girls-color/

S*X TRAFFICKING’S TRUE VICTIMS: WHY ARE OUR BLACK GIRLS/WOMEN SO VULNERABLE? The typical face of s*xual trafficking in America today matches the faces of the 501 juveniles that have gone missing in the D.C. area in just the first quarter of this year. According to the FBI, 40 percent of victims of s*x trafficking are African-Americans, with that number being significantly larger in the major metropolitan areas. In Los Angeles County, the African-American victim rate reaches 92 percent. In overwhelming numbers, the persons most likely to be victimized are vulnerable Black girls and women. *xtrafficking

There are significant health disparities when it comes to s*x trafficking of black girls and women. We have to consider our perspectives and viewpoints that may contribute to this. S*x trafficking is happening among all groups but is impacting black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) disproportionately. Racism and oppression occur in service provision meant to help everyone. We must end systematic racism. Through providing culturally competent trauma informed services and programs for those who may be most at-risk. We must build stronger families and communities so we can spot human trafficking but also work to prevent it from happening. *xtrafficking
