Coalition Ingenu works with mental health centers and support systems, homeless shelters, and rehabilitation programs to promote and encourage creativity as a means to psychological and emotional well-being; and to create a complete system for the recognition of creative achievement by self-taught artists marginalized by extraordinary circumstances. Coalition Ingenu helps with the development and

facilitation of open studio art classes and visits with existing art programs and artists on a regular basis. photographs the artwork and builds portfolios of slides and prints to be used to solicit art exhibits in galleries, community centers, hospitals, churches, bookstores and other venues. Coalition Ingenu treats all artists with dignity and respect and works hard to establish relationships of mutual trust and friendship. frames all the work or otherwise prepares it for presentation; designs, produces and mails invitations and programs, hangs the artwork, and manages all proceeds and returns. Proceeds from sales go to the artists with a small portion going back into the program to help cover costs.

Yes, I vaguely remember this article, written about Justin Duerr's 2012 exhibit at Gallery 309. I remember the exhibit vividly, and the standing room only crowds in the upstairs theater space for the screenings of the Resurrect Dead film. I remember the lively Q and A discussions after each one, and I remember the very impressive Alyssa Green interviewing me and Justin for the article. And I remember that the exhibit came about because, when I saw the premier of Resurrect Dead, I surrendipidously sat next to the owner of Gallery 309 and met him there for the first time after the screening. I told him right then and there that I could make the J. Duerr solo show happen, while the film was hot off the Sundance Film fest award circuit, and even proposed the title that same night, "Stranger Things Have Never Happened." which was taken from a quote by Justin in the film. --- Robert Bullock
