Congrats to Aajaniq Bryant, this years Lake Wales High School, Interact $1000 scholarship winner. She is called Aaja. Her mom is a nurse and case manager at Winter Haven Hospital. Aaja wrote an inspiring essay on Service Above Self, Rotary’s main motto. Along with her volunteering for our club’s boys and girls camp and other projects, she spent a week last summer volunteering with Sports Camp forcible School at South Lake Wales Church of God. She will be attending St John’s University to study Production and Writing and hopes to be in the film industry. The scholarship was presented by Robbie Shields and Tommy Griffin at the Senior Awards Presentation on Wednesday May 6 at the high school.

This morning, the 𝓛𝓪𝓴𝓮 𝓦𝓪𝓵𝓮𝓼 𝓑𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝓯𝓪𝓼𝓽 𝓡𝓸𝓽𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝓒𝓵𝓾𝓫 enjoyed hearing from 𝙇𝙞𝙡𝙖 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙩, who is neurodiverse and has selective mutism.

Lila, who was born in China, lived in France until the age of 15, and then moved to the United States in 2021, says that with the help of her team (mom, teachers, and doctors), so has been working on “Brave Talk” strategies, so things like speaking, can become more comfortable to her.

Lila attends Polk State College and is studying Business Administration. She enjoys traveling, animals, and painting. She understands that her brain works differently, but overcoming these challenges has helped her begin to build her confidence and foster her independence.

What a great weekend at the Lake Wales Breakfast Rotary boy’s camp at Circle F Dude Ranch. Many of the Lake Ashton residents supported by purchasing the calendar of prizes for the month of January 2026. Thank-you!
I have been doing the Camp since 2004. Local teachers select 4th and 5th grade boys who are deserving and normally would not get an experience such as this.
Yes, we do a girl’s camp also, which was done in February, but I just help with it.

Lake Wales Breakfast Rotary camp is now complete. After breakfast we had a Sunday morning service lead by Rob Quam, the director of the Lake Wales Care Center.
We then had some free time playing various sports or just hanging out together, before the Sheriff’s department arrived with their SWAT team and K-Nine unit. The boy’s were fascinated by the program.
The boys were sad when the camp ended at noon. It really was a great weekend, and so glad our Breakfast Rotary club sponsors and runs the camp.

Saturday Is always a very busy day at Boy’s Camp. In the morning the busy activities are Horseback Riding, Capture the Flag, and Archery tag. We have a cookout at lunchtime, with burgers, hotdogs, and ice cream for dessert.
Saturday afternoon we have the Kayak/canoes, swimming, and rhythm trek with drums.
Saturday night we have S’mores at the fire pit, board games and even some free time.
Lights out is at 11PM, and the cabin chiefs, who are mainly Webber football players, were happy we warmed up the leftover pizza.
A very fun day!

Great start to Rotary Boy’s Camp. The boy’s checked in at The Lake Wales Recreation Center and arrived at Circle F Dude Ranch about 5:20PM. After camp indoctrination we had pizza for dinner.
We had the boys make some pottery, their camp flags, and then a team activity to get to know each other better. Next on the agenda was bingo, where all boys, cabin chiefs, and Interact helpers each got a prize.
After bingo, we had snacks, then they were off to their cabins for showers. Lights out is at 11PM and it is 11:05PM now and I still hear noise. I better go check that out.
Big Day Tomorrow!!!
All is going well.
