Last year, I started Amber's Closet in an attempt to deal with the loss of my sister to COVID in 2020. I thought diving into new projects would help me keep my mind at rest by giving me something else to focus on. At first, things seemed to be working out the way I was hoping they would. But then I experienced a miscarriage in September that sent me into an emotional downward spiral and I knew it was time that I face the grief head on and give myself time to feel and heal. I am excited to pick this passion project back up and see what it can do for our community.
💜What is Amber’s Closet and what does it do?
Amber’s Closet will provide formal attire and accessories for Polk County high school students who are unable to afford to buy their own. It is our belief that every student should have the opportunity to attend these special occasions and we hope to help make that happen.
We are solely working on donations and we will NEVER charge our clients for them. They will have the option to keep or re-donate the items they select (minus personal items such as make-up and such). We are working on becoming an official non-profit organization.
If you have any items from the following list that you would like to rehome, please consider donating the items to Amber’s Closet:
-Formal and semi-formal dresses, suits, tuxes all sizes
- Girdles, corsets, crinolines, etc
-Ladies stockings
-Men's and Women’s dress shoes all sizes
-Cufflinks, top hats, vests, socks, etc
-Make up, hair spray, gel, perfumes/cologne, lotions, shampoos/conditioners, hair dyes, dry shampoo, body wash/soap (unopened/unused products only)
-Tiaras/crowns/headpieces/head wreaths, watches, jewelry, purses/clutches
-Artificial corsages
Monetary donations will be an option in the near future. The money would be used for garment cleanings.
If anyone who is a make-up artist, nail artist, hair stylist, or barber (or any services not mentioned) that would like to help with basic services at a discount rate through vouchers, please reach out to us.
