Our blood typing methods have come a long way since the 1980s—thanks to smarter screening panels, error rates are now almost negligible. But even with all these improvements, there are still some low-frequency antibodies that can escape detection.

Why does this matter? Because missing those antibodies could mean the difference between a smooth transfusion and some serious complications.

In this episode, Dr. Kadesh Daniels unpacks an interesting transfusion medicine case where routine testing cleared a patient for transfusion—yet a hidden incompatibility still triggered a reaction. Discover how a rare Anti-Wrᵃ antibody evaded detection, what this reveals about crossmatching limitations, and why even the most reliable systems can miss uncommon risks.
