🛡️ Youth Protection FAQs: Adult Supervision

Questions about adult supervision come up frequently in Scouts BSA. The good news? Scouting America has compiled answers to many of the situations leaders and parents encounter.

Topics covered include:

• Merit badge counseling when only one Scout is present
• Fundraising activities involving a single Scout
• What happens if only one leader arrives at an activity
• Registration requirements for adults attending overnight events
• Adult program participants
• One-on-one contact and what "inside and outside of Scouting" means
• Whether youth may gather without adult supervision

If you've ever wondered, "What do the policies actually say?" this resource is worth bookmarking.

Has your American flag served its time with honor and is ready for retirement?

Troop 321 is partnering with Granite Falls Troops 128 and 28 to conduct a Flag Retirement Ceremony on June 20.

As a service to our community, Scouts will gladly pick up flags that are ready for an honorable retirement.

Please send our Troop page a Facebook message to arrange pickup by June 19.

Wilderness survival skills in action. 🔥

This Scout used a tampon from her camping kit as a fire starter, along with homemade tinder and flint and steel.

Dryer lint packets are another great backup option to keep on hand when you're spending time outdoors.

The only trace should be our footsteps.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of Scouts head outdoors for camps, hikes, expeditions, and adventures. 🏕️

Camp season is beginning again, and many of us will soon be back in the outdoors with Scouts, some as leaders, some as volunteers, and many supporting from afar. 🥾

It’s worth revisiting a simple standard that underpins every good outdoor experience: Leave No Trace.

Travel and camp on durable surfaces. Dispose of waste properly. Leave what you find. Minimise campfire impacts. Respect wildlife. Be considerate of other visitors. 💜

These principles are a mindset that helps ensure the outdoors stays open, healthy, and meaningful for the next generation.

Let’s set the example all year round. ⚜️

It’s always special when former Scouts come back to share their knowledge and help the next generation of outdoor leaders.

🇺🇸 Supporting Military Families Through Scouting

For military families, life often includes frequent moves, new schools, and constant transitions. Scouting can provide something incredibly valuable during those changes: friendship, leadership opportunities, outdoor adventure, and a welcoming community.

Scouting America has announced that effective June 1, 2026, the national youth registration fee will be waived for eligible military families.

✅ Eligible Families:
Children of currently serving:
• Active-duty military
• National Guard members
• Reserve members

✅ What’s Covered:
The $85 national youth registration fee for youth members

📅 Effective:
June 1, 2026

🔎 How It Works:
1️⃣ Visit BeAScout.org to find a unit
2️⃣ Select “Get Military Discount Code”
3️⃣ Complete the verification process
4️⃣ Apply the code during online checkout

⚠️ Important Notes:
• Applies to online youth registrations only
• Local council fees and unit dues may still apply
• Adult registrations are not included

This initiative helps make Scouting more accessible for military-connected youth and families across the country.
