📚✨ What a powerful Book Club moment! ✨📚
Our Rotary Club had the pleasure of hosting Hannah Palmer, author of The Pool Is Closed: Segregation, Summertime, and the Search for a Place to Swim. We had a heartfelt conversation about Atlanta’s disappearing public pools, environmental justice, and how access to water has always reflected deeper issues of race and equity.
One Rotarian said it best:
💬 “Hearing directly from the author gave me a new lens on how environmental justice shows up right in our own neighborhoods. It was inspiring and eye-opening.”
And one line from the book really stayed with us:
📝 “Public swimming pools are the most contested, the most celebrated, and the most disappeared public spaces in American history.”
Big thanks to Hannah for joining us, and to everyone who showed up ready to learn, share, and reflect. ❤️💧
Swipe through for a few photos from the night, and stay tuned—our next book club pick is coming soon!
