Reckless With Red

Reckless With Red WE GET PATRIOTIC CITIZENS TO JUMP OUT OF PERFECTLY GOOD AIRPLANES TO RAISE MONEY FOR LONG ISLAND VETERAN HEALTH PROGRAMS.

John “Red” Pelan served as a combat paratrooper in the 187th Airborne division during the Korean War. In 2008, John wanted to experience the feeling of jumping out of an airplane again for his 77th birthday. He shared this with his granddaughter, Darah Salmaggi, who then conceived the idea of creating a fundraiser to benefit veterans to compliment his wish. Since then “Reckless with Red” has expan

ded both in numbers of participants and annual donations. We have established relationships with many key organizations and individuals such News 12 Long Island, State Senator Lee Zeldin, and Town of Islip Supervisor Tom Croci all of whom attended the event last year. We are affiliated with the various veteran organizations and many other groups that are committed to our cause.

Jeff McQueen with the Mental Health Association of Nassau County. Not sure if you are aware but the number one leading cause of accidental death in America is Overdose. In the state of NY in 2022 there was a recorded 5,020 which had risen 6.3% in 2023 to 5,337. This year we are already over 3,892 with opioid related deaths of which 70% are fentanyl related.
The good news is that overdose is preventable. It's not a cancer or a disease that has no cure. By raising the awareness and educating our community, providing access to Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT), increasing the knowledge of Harm Reduction and peer support with an increased workforce of Certified Recovery Peer Advocates (CRPA) and getting Narcan in the hands of more people who have loved ones that are opioid addicted we stand a chance at turning these numbers around.

This is your chance to help and join the fight against overdose. Join us on October 5, 2024, at Jones Beach Field 5 let's stomp out overdose.

Please see sponsorship opportunities and create your team and come out and walk? Hope to see you there.

To our beautiful Reckless With Red family this would've been our "jump weekend". Thank you all again for your sincere desire to assist the men and women and families who fought for the FREEDOMS afforded to us as citizens of the UNITED STATES.
None of us support looting, destruction of property or violence against our police or citizens. We do however whole heartedily respect and greatly honor the principles many have lost their lives to defend. Our freedom to be heard, our freedom to protest, our freedom to disagree! May we emerge from all that is happening with a greater understanding of the truth and a greater love for one another.
Our hearts are greatly saddened by the continued loss of life. Let us each take a moment to pray for one another. Peace be with us all!
