Effective 2/17/2026 Commissioners have approved a burn ban until March 3

TODAY-TONIGHT:
Southeast winds today gusting 25 to 35 MPH
Afternoon relative humidity 25 to 40% through the Missouri River Valley, 40 to 60% elsewhere.
Lowest humidity is displaced southwest of the stronger winds.
Cold front moves east tonight, which could trigger high-based showers and isolated thunderstorms this evening.
This activity could produce isolated gusts up to 50 MPH.
Increasing west winds will follow the cold front, with nighttime gusts 30 to 45 MPH, strongest north of I-90. A Wind Advisory is in place Midnight to Noon Wednesday (see attached graphic for location).

WEDNESDAY:
Strongest winds in the morning, slowly decreasing but still breezy in the afternoon.
Not as warm but unseasonably mild (upper 40s-50s).
Afternoon relative humidity as low as 15-25% near/south of I-90; 25-40% north of I-90.
Critical fire weather conditions may develop if winds do not decrease as quickly as forecast.

THURSDAY-THURSDAY NIGHT:
Light to perhaps moderate snow expands west to east Thursday.
Peak rates currently focused on Thursday afternoon & evening, impacting the evening commute.
Exact amounts are uncertain, but they have been trending higher.
Moderate (50-70%) probability of 2 inches or more.
Low-moderate (30-50%) probability of 4 inches or more (highest toward south-central South Dakota).
Breezy north winds may produce areas of blowing snow.
