On Thursday evening, we had a vehicle extrication training led by one of our own, Josh Buer.

Vehicle extrication is the process of safely removing people who are trapped inside vehicles after a motor vehicle accident. During training, firefighters practiced stabilizing damaged vehicles, using hydraulic rescue tools (often called the “Jaws of Life”), and working through different rescue scenarios to safely access and remove patients from vehicles.

A special thank you to Josh for sharing his expertise, and to Eric Larson and LP Farm Supply for donating the vehicles used during tonight’s training. Realistic, hands-on training like this helps ensure we’re prepared when our community needs us most.

Today we’d like to recognize and thank Tim Scheidt for 34 years of dedicated service to the Lake Preston Fire Department.

Since joining the department in 1992, Tim has answered countless calls, trained alongside fellow firefighters, mentored others, and helped protect our community whenever the pager sounded.

This July, he officially retired from the department. While we’re sad to see him hang up his gear, we’re incredibly grateful for everything he’s given to LPFD over the past three decades.

Tim, thank you for your dedication, your leadership, and your commitment to serving others. 👏

When the call comes, departments across Kingsbury County answer.

Yesterday, our department responded to De Smet to assist with a structure fire after being requested through mutual aid. We’re proud to stand alongside our neighboring departments whenever we’re needed.

Thank you to the DeSmet Volunteer Fire Department, Iroquois Fire Department, De Smet Rescue, Kingsbury County Sheriff's Office, Kingsbury County Emergency Management, and everyone else involved in the response. We’re thankful no injuries were reported.

Please see the official media release below for additional information.
