Skate into New Year

Skate into New Year Skate into New Year is a charity skating party in Lake Placid, New York. Families have made skating i Thank you.

The Skate into New Year event was created by Christie Sausa, a figure/speed skater, Kiwanis Club member, and philanthropist whose goal was to provide a wholesome, family friendly event for families in Lake Placid during New Years Eve. It is hosted on the Lake Placid Speed Skating Oval from 10:30 pm - 12:30 am, and remains a unique way to ring in the New Year, with several guests making it a holida

y tradition and traveling from throughout North America to "Skate into the New Year". Called "Skate into 8 (2008)" in it's first year, the event benefitted the Skating Club of Lake Placid, and the next year benefitted the Lake Placid Youth Hockey Association as well. The admission fee was kept low ($5), with students and armed services members receiving free admission to encourage young people to enjoy the evening in a substance-free setting. Realizing that "if you can't eat, you can't skate", Sausa made the Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry the beneficiary charity in 2010, and it continues to benefit from the event, receiving approximately $1,000 every year from Skate into New Year. All proceeds benefit the Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry, as the community generously donates ice time on the Oval, staff, food, and beverages for the enjoyment of the party-goers. Please contact us with any questions and thank you for making Skate into New Year a success!
