Strong Communities need strong early childhood systems.

Child care supports today’s workforce by helping parents work, and tomorrow’s by giving children a strong start.

This is why child care is essential community infrastructure; without it, we can’t flourish.

BT3 is working to advance solutions that support families, providers and the future of the Adirondack region.

We are incredibly proud to share the voice of one of our very own! Julia Day, a dedicated member of our BT3 Parent Advisory Council, is speaking out about the importance of early intervention.

After just over a year of speech therapy, my son used his first full five-word sentence last summer: “Here, Mom, it’s a booger.”

We had a great time planting pinwheels today at Family Connections, the Child Care Coordinating Council's Plattsburgh family resource center. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness and promote actions that protect children. It's an opportunity for communities to support strong families, thriving children, and healthier communities through resources like family resource centers.

In recognition of this important month, the Healthy Families NY Home Visiting Program and the Adirondack Network of Family Resource Centers hosted pinwheel planting events at Family Resource Center locations across the North Country.

Did you know there are currently zero child care centers in the Town of Johnsburg? ACF’s Community Council Chair and Johnsburg Town Councilperson, Anna Bowers, is working to change that.

As Chair of the Town’s Child Care Committee, Anna believes that “childcare is an economic investment, it is workforce infrastructure, and we need it so badly.”

The Town has already earmarked $30,000 in ARPA funds to kickstart a solution, but first, they are looking for feedback to help understand the community’s needs and plan thoughtfully for the future.

Thank you to Assemblymember Cashman for bringing local leaders together for a vital conversation on child care in the North Country!

Our Director, Kate Ryan, was honored to participate in this week’s roundtable at TDC in Plattsburgh. Child care is more than just a family need—it is essential community infrastructure.

We are grateful to Assemblymember Cashman for listening to the unique challenges our rural providers and families face. We look forward to working together to develop strategies and solutions that meet the needs of our children, families, businesses, and rural community.

PLATTSBURGH | Assemblyman Michael S. Cashman (D-Plattsburgh) held a roundtable Wednesday evening with childcare agencies and advocates from throughout the North Country.

We are grateful and excited for Governor Hochul and the NYS Legislature's proposed investment in the Child Care Assistance Program. While we wait for this much-needed relief, it is critical that we maintain our child care capacity and support the dedicated providers caring for our youngest neighbors.

Thanks to an incredible outpouring of generosity from our donors, ACF has distributed gap funding grants to 56 child care centers, group family daycares, and home-based providers across the Adirondacks.

These grants provide critical stability, helping providers keep their doors open during the ongoing subsidy shortage.

Our BT3 Director, Kate Ryan, is at the NY State Capitol today for the State of the State address! We are incredibly energized by Governor Hochul’s commitment to a roadmap for universal child care.

In the Adirondacks, we know that child care is as essential as our roads—it’s the foundation that allows our families to work and our communities to thrive. We’re ready to roll up our sleeves and ensure this unprecedented investment reaches our rural providers and the families who need it most. Let’s make the Adirondacks the best place to raise a child!

Great to see North Country Public Radio highlighting the movement toward universal child care in New York State! The Birth to Three Alliance is proud to represent the unique needs of our Adirondack communities on this issue.

While we look toward these long-term solutions, we are also monitoring the recent news of federal funding freezes for child care programs and New York State response. As this could impact our region, we are actively engaging with state leaders to ensure pathways forward work for the families in our region. We are excited by promising approaches towards universal child care shared by the governor today. Local voices matter now more than ever. Read the story:

Political will is strong, and advocacy groups are laying out roadmaps...but the price tag is still daunting.
