Knowing a child is safe ≠ them FEELING safe. 🌱
For children who have experienced trauma, physical safety alone isn't always enough to turn off their survival brain. Objective safety is a fact, but felt safety is an experience.
At Selamta Family Project, we know that children cannot heal, build trust, or truly thrive until their minds and bodies believe the danger has passed. It is the foundation of family strengthening.
🚨 When Felt Safety is missing:
You might see hypervigilance, behavioral challenges, a constant "fight or flight" response, or difficulty resting.
✨ When Felt Safety is present:
You see deep breaths, relaxed shoulders, a willingness to connect, and the return of playfulness.
✨ How do we build it?
Because you cannot logic a child out of a trauma response, we facilitate the neurobiological shift of true felt safety through unwavering consistency and deeply secure relationships. We achieve this by proactively addressing their internal physiological and external ecological needs to stabilize their baseline, building secure attachments through playful connection and structured choices that disarm fear, and meeting distress with a calm, regulating presence to guide their nervous system back to a baseline of calm before addressing behavior.
